Ok so I'm just waiting now to hear back regarding transport insurance, the name of the freight forwarder etc from their end.

It has worked out roughly for the Newcastle order:

30L= $237 + $36.5 shipping ($273.5 total)

60L= $295 + $43.8 shipping ($338.8 total)

Production time: 21 days
Deposit: 30%

Below is copied from an email request for clarification of transportation/port fees etc using the freight forwarder in Shanghai:

"Enclosed pls check the complete price for it.

Also we are sending to you how the freight forwarders charging:

Port Service 105AUD W/M

THC 25AUS W/M

PORT LICENSE 10AUD W/M

SERURITY 4AUD W/M

DELIVERY ORDER 70AUD/SET

CMR 35AUD/SET

SCA 35AUD/SET

DRS 10USD W/M

May I ask how your local freight forwarders charge?

The production time is nearly 21 days.

We can make the invoice for you with amount less than 1000usd for your custom perpuse.

And Packing list will be sent to you also.

Deposit is 30%.

We have a full range of brewing tanks, I think when your friends see our products, they will be interested.

I can send them some brewing tank pics after our goods arrive you.

Best regards."

It appears their freight forwarder will perform exactly the same job as a locally sourced one, for ~ 40% of the cost.

Postage distribution was calculated as 60L being 1.2 times the cost of a 30L one, so I divided that way- still pretty cheap I think.

What are peoples thoughts?

My 2c:
  • 30L is still cheaper than a 26L brewbucket
  • Bottom draining butterfly valve is nice

  • Legs/stand still needs to be considered
  • Requires at least one 2" TC gasket and clamp (if you don't already have)
  • Will need potentially two holes drilled in the lid, one for thermowell and one for airlock/blowoff tube
  • Quality has yet to be seen

Go on, spit it out, no need to be embarrassed, your amoungst friends.

Sorry gents, I'm going to have to pull out too. I just had a chance to massively up my SS ferment capacity very cheaply.

And dammit, I neglected to say good work Judanero. Import buys are not easy, by any gauge. Much appreciated, and sorry I couldn't carry through.

That's interesting, what is it going to boil?

BTW I think the two triclovers on the left hand side are too close together if they are going to be uncoupled regularly. Ideally you want the spacing between port centre lines to be at least 3 x fitting OD. If they are for a heating coil or similar you are probably OK but they'll still be fiddly to do up and undo.

I can't believe I missed this :(
I'm going to have to be a pain and pull out of the buy, my car has just died (isn't really worth getting fixed) and I have to fork out for a new one :(
You're welcome to steal my spot

Delicious wort is what she'll boil!

They aren't actually near each other, it looks like it on the side view but the positioning is clearer if you look at the view from the top (on the right).

Ok no more chopping and changing for me. I was really hopping we'd have a few more Melbourne takers it'd certainly distribute the port costs.
