        It was completely dead! Gave it 48 hrs on stir plate and gravity did not budge. RIP vegemite yeast, although it already was.

        48 hours is not long enough for visible signs if a small live sample in a larger starter, in my experience. Not saying it wasn't mutated, though.

        I picked the wrong beer I want to ferment to be trying to bring suck old slurry back to life. Patience was not an option this time as brewing for a bucks party. It will be scoffed by drunkards so a healthy dose of dry lager yeast will suffice!

        Haha, yea when I bought it I calibrated the scale to 0.000 with distilled water. Thought that was it "calibrated"... talking with Spiesy, he has found it changes over time. Got home that day and checked mine with distilled water and it read 0.004 :S

        Think denial is the most logical suggestion I've heard =D

        Nice, just kegged mine using SN Kellerweis bottle harvested yeast. This yeast had a really funky(not bad just unusual) smell the first couple of days but smelt great after that.

        think mine brewed overnight, was only 700mL wort which I put about 200mL slurry (unrinsed) into, tasted clean but biter from the hops that were not rinsed out... pitched it into the FV this morning so fingers crossed =D

      Aussie ale keg blew sat night at 2am, tapped first DSGA without cleaning the lines (blasphemy!)... WOW, very impressed, might have to clean lines for next weekend to give the DSGA the respect it deserves!
