Good question, access inside for cleaning? Weight?

Actually, that is picking at the back of my mind - how much does a 50L weigh.

It isn't that much fun lifting a full fermenter, lifting 44 odd litres of fluid + ss fermenter might be a tad heavy.

At 180 bux incl tap I might be up for one. If I ever got tired of it could turn it into a HLT or kettle.

Well from what I've read people just fill with PBW and let it soak for a few days, sterilise and your done.

I'm gonna check if my auto siphon can reach the bottom of a keg, only thing I can see is the weight being a problem. Top of my head a keg weighs 11kg?

Keg probably needs some mods to make it easy to use, or as is it's a bit of a compromise. Olive oil drum is ready to go straight off the shelf I suppose.

Yeah, cleaning is no issue, I use a carboy atm so can rig up a rotating shammy of some sort if need be. Wider mouth just means easier access and less need to soak.

The weight is an issue, as it is, post crash chill I'm trying not to shake it all up while lifting it to enough height for draining. 20 odd litres is heavy enough...
Also waiting to see dimensions see if it'd fit inside my kegerator fermenting fridge.

the reason I like the idea of the 50l isnt to fill it but to have the head room, I know with a 30l Ill need to drill the lid and fit a blow off for some of my ferments, I think the old coopers style drums are something like 35l and I regularly make a mess out of those ;)

The pots linked above do look the goods for a 30l option but in an ideal world, I like to support local as well, having talked to him today he is pretty strongly opinionated about the quality of the welded bottom being like a "coffee cup".. that speaks volumes to me in terms of a known quality from a local (and defect covered) supplier.

At the end of the day, this is a bulk buy and a community event so I'm personally happy to go with a great deal on a good quality product whichever it ends up being..

Ive posted loads of options and there are more coming out the woods every day, at some point were gunna need to bite the bullet and commit.

no reason why this cant go in 2 directions though? Split the list into 2 bulk buys, oil drums in one and the above post into another, easily reducing the number below 1K for the pots and getting a reasonable number for the local oil drums?

Yob, can you ask if the olive oil thing can be put on a stove to sanitise it?

Great idea for a bulkbuy Yob.
I have been wanting to remove plastic from my processes for a while (no great reason, just don't like it).
Being a no-chiller, do you think it would be practical to fit a sanitary filter or similar to the lid of these and use it as a no-chill vessel as well as to ferment?
I also like the idea of steam sanitisation. Hopefully it is stove-top friendly :)

Sizes as follows, essentially box measurements and they fit snug he says..

50l = 55cm high x 36.5 dia
30l = 43cm high x 34cm dia

For perspective, coopers drum

43cm x 35cm dia

Will ship anywhere lads, obviously you're paying ;)

Re adding names to list, please keep the running total up to date as this is what I'll use
