looks the right colour and consistency compared to a french job

Noiiiice! Does your coffee macnhine still work? remember to run water through the handle for a few 100ml so it doesnt sieze shut!

Ran a bit of water after I collected what I wanted. then just raced off and ran a couple of cups threw it with the handle peice empty and got clean odourless water that tastes like hot water......phew. good thing I make the first coffe in the morning so I will be the tester.

Ive only done the french press a couple of times and havn't got the same result opacity wise as this has given.
had a sneak taste from the keg just now and it is looking pretty promising. All those at the Qld chrissy swap will be the judges I guess. I 'll make sure you get a bottle in with your case to Michael  . Which reminds me to update my swap beer.

Cheers Brad

Brad, check this out Brad, cost a couple bucks from the Recycling Centre and good for the same use....

If I recall though, the water does heat up till boiling before going through the pellets, only used it once so far(since ive done dick all brewing) and I think the water mostly extracted bitterness from the pellets, prob need to reduce the temp of the water(if possible) or run the boiling water through frozen pellets to reduce the temp to get more flavour/aroma....

Hopefully ill get back to brewing fully soon to keep experimenting...

This has got me thinking, as I sip on my first "home-brewed" espresso of the day.
I often do get a craving for hops first thing and in the morning, as beer is a bit inappropriate first thing. Plus i'm the only person who used my espresso maker, so I'm not appealing to anyone but me...

Anyhow, I too was wondering about how this hop tea comes out, as opposed to the "traditional" boiling method.
Is much flavour and aroma noticable?

I might have to try some experimenting of my own...

Ben stuck a Saaz Plug into the shop espresso machine the other day, dubbed it a Hoppalatt, but then he is a language mangling *******

Smelt pretty good.

whenever anyone says or types 'expresso' instead of 'espresso', a small part of me dies. :(

i did something similar ages ago. i infused some cascade hops pellets in vodka, then spun out the solids after a few weeks with a centrifuge. add a dash to an APA for some slap-in-the-face aroma.

Mmmmm hop liqueur! :icon_drool2:
All I need is a centrifuge...

Happy to report that the first coffee the next morning was fine. The beers been in the keg for a few days and have taken a couple of little samples. But it is hard to judge how much difference it has made to bitterness, flavour or aroma as I havnt got any of the original to taste against. Initial thoughts are that it has added to each probably more so on aroma. With the bitterness I am finding a fresher hop bitterness if that makes sense.

I will be doing it again but will next time try a smaller amount as I found 20g swelled up to much in the pressure cup(?) so maybe 10g done twice and have the coffee pot sitting in a tray of ice, then add the the hops to a french press as well?

@ CB yep the coffee pot thing also was on the list to try as well, and there is an old one at work that no one uses.

Cheers

Almost forgot i had done this.

Anyway, seven years latet i have a rather bland beer in the keg and i remember.
I have an old work coffee machine that the steamer died on and heaps of growlers. So here we have mosaic hop infused growlers.
Wow, what a difference 5g of mosaic espresso shots make to a growler.

This the one i ran through the double basket, i had better extraction pressure through the single for 5g, will try the dual wall basket next time.

Love this. If you had to disguise, say, home brew *kit* tang, from a lazy brew you'd recommend this technique...? [emoji1]

Asking for a friend...
