So after a very long break, I was prodded to do another of these and this week it's Northdown. Would be good to get some of these threads going to consolidate the info on this UK hop.
So what are your experiences with Northdown? Have you used it in a bitter? Any other styles? Does it go with other UK hops? Other hops? What sort of hopping rates work well? Does it work well for bittering, flavour, aroma? Any commercial beers which showcase this hop?

A first generation selection from Northern Brewer crossed with a German male resistant to downy mildew.
Characteristics
Aroma: Mild pleasant and delicate hop aroma.
Cone Structure: Medium to large, plumpish, quite loose.
Lupulin: Palish yellow, moderate amounts.
Growth & Harvest Information
Growth Habit: Not over-vigorous, neat and manageable.
Maturity: Early to mid-season.
Yield: 1,500 - 1,900 kg./ha or 1,350 - 1,700 lb./ac.
Pickability: Quite good.
Drying and Baling: No problems.
Storageability: 60 - 70% of alpha acids remaining after six (6) months storage @ 20� C.
Disease Reaction: Susceptible to Verticillium wilt and powdery mildew but quite resistant to downy mildew.

Alpha Acid: 6.8 - 10.0% w/w
Beta Acids: 3.3 - 6.2% w/w
Co-Humulone: 24 - 31% of alpha acids
Oil Composition
Total Oil: 1.2 - 2.2 mls/100 grams
Myrcene: 23- 29% of whole oil
Humulene: 40- 45% of whole oil
Caryophyllene: 13 - 17% of whole oil
Farnesene: <1% of whole oil
General Trade Perception
A true dual-purpose hop with moderate bittering potential and excellent flavor/aroma characteristics.
Other Information
Released in the early 1970's with relatively high alpha acids for its time. Its excellent flavor properties ensured its continued survival after the release of the higher alpha acids variety Wye Target.
Relative of Challenger and Target. Very resiny. Substitutes: Phoenix or blend of Goldings and Brewers Gold
