Would someone be kind enough to send me the Bairds malt database for Promash? I tried the Beersmith download option, however since I have already downloaded the trial version (298 days ago it tells me) it won't let me view any files at all. At the time I was comparing Beersmith and Promash, went the latter, but am short on the Bairds information.

Cheers.

I'm keen on the Bairds Malt DB for Promash too Duff.
I'm guessing you've got some Bairds Golden Promise off Gerard too :p

I have the same problem with beer smith Duff, Trying to get all of the available grain specs for malts available to me. Have only been able to find Powells info.

Is there anyone with Beersmith that can download the specs for Bairds, Joe White & Hoepfner Malts and post them for fellow brewers like us?

JW, Hoepfner, Weyermann and Thomas Fawcett are here
No Bairds though.

Kong,

I could have sworn that I did the Bairds specs at the same time that I did the others that appear on the Beersmith site - but they are not in my Beersmith system either.

I do have the specs here somewhere so I will pump them into Beersmith and send you the file.

I will get back to you in a day or so.

Great Stuff David...
If you have the MO specs for now that would be great.

Cheers KonG

Here's a Promash file for malt specs that was originally supplied by Maltcraft. Have a sneaking suspicion that the British malts are Fawcett's though. IIRC I put all my Baird's specs in by hand.

Let me know if it works. I don't want to try and reimport it into Promash in case I stuff my malt database. Also I have no idea how to utilise it. I can't remember how.

BTW. If you have trouble remove the .zip suffix from it. I had to add it to make the file upload. Would not accept the .mim suffix by itself.

Would appreciate those as well please David.

Kong, Ross,

Here is the raw Bairds datasheet that I have from a few years ago.

It should be straightforward to work out which figures to punch in, but if not ask away and I am sure we can all work it out.

Thanks bigfridge.

Do you have anyother Bairds specs or know where to find them on the web?

I am specifically looking for the GP spec.

Kirk

Hey Warrenl63, how do you actually get that file to work in Promash, I cant see anyother .mim files in my promash files folders...?

Sinkas not 100% certain did it some time ago (5 years). I think you put it in your ProMash root directory. Remove the .zip extension. I had to add that to make it upload. Extension should just be .mim.

Restart your Promash and I think you go to your grain database and use the "import" button.

Nice one Bigfridge.... thanks...
although they don't specify the GP.. do they...?
Ross.. how would those cystal specs equate to your "pale" "medium" "dark" crystals....?

have things/names of grains changed over the years...?
is there new specs...?

Using the pdf previously supplied in this post I'm trying to create Marris Otter as a grain in ProMash. Can someone more knowledgeable please check as I'm not overly confident:

GRAVITY PER LBS : 1.030 (?)

SRM COLOUR (LOVIBOND) : 3 (?)

EBC COLOUR : 6 (?)

MAX IN BATCH% : 100%

DIAST POWER : 45

% PROTEIN : 45

%PSN : 0

Cheers

Specs change every batch
Average should be fine enough for most of us ...I mean sorry do I really concern myself about a minor change in Nitrogen from one batch to another or if the DP varies or if Bairds spec their malt up in a differnet fashion to Weyermann or Fawcett or Crisp or Smiths, if WMK really means anything to my 12kg batch... and do I know which batch I have...
Set and Forget man....

Only thing that looks wrong (and that will make a difference) is the gravity (pound per gallon), which should be around 1.036.

Thanks Adamt.

The thing that really threw me was comparing it to the ProMash specs for 'JWM Traditional Ale Malt'.

This has a Diast Power of 320 as opposed to 45 for the Marris Otter.

What does this actually mean?

Fish

Those DP figures are a mixed standard. A "45" under IOB is around 150 EBC - which is normal for English ale malts. Aussie malts are always much much higher in DP - hence the 320 EBC figure. DP or Diastatic Power - also known as the Diastase content, is a measure of the likely enzyme activity in the malt and its ability to convert to sugars.
