Aldi specials

Its a good price if you're in the market for a 3D printer, but given the technology used (fused filament) I wouldn't recommend them for anything brewing / food etc. related. The parts will have small holes and imperfections, which make perfect sites for bugs. Good for taps and similar where its less of an issue. The home models of whatever brand all have issues so need patience and a fair input of time to produce decent models, plus an ability to design models in 3D int he 1st place, unless you're happy to be reliant on other people's published models. That seems to be true however much you spend. The days of true plug and play for 3D technology is still some way off.

That said, there is something truly amazing and magical about watching a carefully planned model come slowly to life before you eyes, layer by tiny layer

Plus its probably worth noting that if you only want to do one or two items, such as the kegerator fan mod then there are 3d printing services that you can use, or you can probably head to your local hackerspace with a sixpack of your finest brew and some cash for materials.

I buy Aldi brand bleach that I use in part of my brewery, I notice that our store only has the lemon scented crap now. Just wondering if this is the same with all stores? Perhaps time to go back to Wollies home-brand bleach.

They do a special release of the old white label unscented one once a year in 3kg tubs. $8 IIRC

Sorry, I was thinking napisan equivalent. Might do similar with bleach too though.

They always had the 2lt regular bleach, I notice the last few times it all lemon scented, could be our store only?

I'll check.
The Casino store still has a few Coopers Craft Beer outfits.
If they are still there next week and reduced I'm tempted to buy a couple and use them to do small batches for comps this season.
I enjoy brewing to style but for drinking purposes I don't really want 20 litres of mild or dry stout or cerveza hanging around.
Bottles and hydros will come in handy as well.

They may be in the process of switching suppliers, they did that recently with their Atlas fly sprays (on topic, the fly sprays I use to keep the brewery area insect free ) they were out of stock for six weeks, but the new lot are brilliant, as good as the $6 Morteins etc.

Worth still keeping an eye out for new stock coming in. Tandil dishwashing liquid went through the same "hiccup" a couple of years ago and the new lot is as good as Morning Fresh. I have a 3l pump pack in the brewery that I wash the FVs out with after Perc and before Starsan, gets them squeaky clean and even picks up bits that the overnight Perc soak didn't dislodge.

OT but still on cleaning, could we look at a Perc bulk buy to coincide with the Grafton comp in April?

Stu: as with most things at the big A they have a couple of lines of most products. I don't use bleach myself in the brewery but have a bottle of this hanging around the laundry for stains on bench tops etc:



It's fragrance free and quite strong, not as cheap as the 2L white bottle (that's the same as Coles or Woolies that makes me think there's a manufacturing thing maybe happening) but I expect you get what you pay for. I see it contains Sodium Hydroxide as well as chlorine.
It's in with the cleaners not the laundry.

I find the slight veering of this thread just as useful as the specials posted Barls. Is it really necessary to create a "What did you buy at Aldi?" thread? In the meantime I get to read posts informing me what dietary health supplements I should ingest in order to make for healthy living.

Not sure whether it's been mentioned already but I bought a 6 pack of 330ml swing top Flensburger Weizens tonight for $15. Not a bad beer for the price and a handy bottle to have for leftovers from the fermentor.

I saw those there tonight Takai. Can you post some close ups of some of the finished items. Keen to know how well they work.

They work well, and probably one of the best implementations i have seen for new users, but still not simple to use. Needs tweaking and fiddling with.

Here is half of the fan mount printed.

Was all printing well until we had a power out here for a couple of mins, which was long enough to kill the print.

The small riser there is broken as i was curious about strength (and so broke it).

In stock at the moment, in the special items aisles, seems to appear only once a year.

Around $3.60 a kilo that's half the price of Bunnings or Chemists.



Lasts ages as part of the Magnesium Sulphate / Calcium Sulphate Burtonising mix.

ed: I always use a good dose in any Aussie style brew especially Coopers clones.

Also very good for gardening, for lawns and green veg growing.

And soaking feet after a hard, hot day of brewing :beerbang:

Yup, the pure thing. Just checked the small print, no poisons or "not to be taken" advices.

I expect they are fully aware that many older people will likely take the stuff in a cup of tea to get the bowels moving.
