Story in the Fairfax press going into the background of Aldi's special buys. Eg...
With a population left impoverished in the wake of World War II, Aldi's founders Karl and Theo Albrecht tried to keep food prices as low as possible and also cheaply offloaded excess household goods in their small chain of grocery stores.
"They bought up random things and they put them into their stores and realised over time that people were not just visiting their stores for their staples, but because they didn't want to miss out on a bargain," Mr Moore said.

Some homewares, hardware, entertainment and tech products come from Winplus, a "product development company" based in Melbourne which supplied Aldi with this month's 3D printers.
Other products trace back to the Hong Kong arm of Wachsmuth & Krogmann, a German company that also supplies Aldi in the United States and Europe.
After colonising Australia's eastern seaboard with 350 stores, Aldi's latest is moving west. It opened its first four stores in Adelaide last month and has plans for up to 50 in South Australia and Western Australia.

Secondary fermenting in a collapsible bag or a no chill cube will not create a bomb. It is in fact a lot safer than fermenting in glass bottles.wynnum1 said:

Glass bottles on the other hand can and do explode and throw shrapnel if over primed.
Very good value, I seem to remember paying about $11 for something similar at BCF a couple of years ago. The problem with that one was getting a suitable diameter vinyl hose to fit snugly onto the tap, it just wasn't any standard size.
twice the price of a chest freezer, can't see much application to home brewing. However next time they get in a cheap kitchen fridge with freezer I'll be in like Flynn.jeremy said:

The ones in the Aldi catalogue look the same as an ebay one I got from china. A 10mm Boston PVC tube fits nice and snugly over that one. I’ll bring a bit of tube to Aldi with me on Saturday and get a few if it fits. They make great co2 containers also.Bribie G said:

You probably already know this but if you get a tube of smaller diameter than the tap then dip the end in a cup of boiling water it will push over the larger diameter tap. Once it has cooled it will usually just slip on and off without further heating/expanding.

As a camping fridge it looks alright for the price. My concern would be after sale service. Without starting a Waeco v Engel war, we have a Waeco which required a new main controller board under warranty - this took nearly a couple of months through our local service agent. I suspect Stirling could be even worse. The aldi one comes with a 2 year warranty but if you had a warranty claim you'd probably just want a refund. Other may have more experience with after sales service on the bigger aldi appliances like this.jeremy said:

We are finally getting some Aldi stores in Perth this year! Are the sales always Australia wide or do they vary from state to state? I've been watching the deals roll through this thread for awhile while I watch from the sideslines so looking forward to some hopefully good finds
AFAIK the specials are always nationwide. The Adelaide members would be the ones to comment there.
Once the stored get bedded down and they know what quantities of what product are likely to sell, you shouldn't have a problem getting an item, but if it's likely to be a fast seller then you'd be advised to join the Aldi tragics queuing on a Wednesday or Saturday for the store to open.
Good examples would be really good value fridges and freezers, TVs etc.
I got into our local yesterday and they still had quite a few 20L collapsible water cubes and surprisingly a stack of Mountain Bikes left from the previous Wednesday.
From our point of view, the vac sealers usually hang around for a couple of weeks . edit: the Casino Store had one remaindered for $50 but I'm not a vaccer or I'd have grabbed it.

All products are displayed on pallets or movable metal "rummage" tables. They clear an area at the back of the store and the new hardware and variety specials go there, so dash for the back of the store.
Then the pallets / tables get progressively moved towards the front of the store and eventually get remaindered.
Food and consumable specials like our Sriracha Sauce start near the registers at the front of the store.
Happy shopping.
