never open .exe files from the internet or open email, messages or any file that your not sure of how authentic it is.

Always run a fire wall such as: http://www.zonelabs.com
Always run an antivirus program and scan your comp weekly such as: http://www.grisoft.com

I run Norton internet security and antivirus but have used both these programs and standby them being some of the best free ones you will find.

Doc it would be worth putting up a important notice, me thinks!

Everyone - you must scan your computers for viruses witha good virus scanner - and preferably now. Also scans for Trojans.

I may have received the E-mail as well - to be honest, I haven't looked yet. Since I haven't looked yet it can not possibly be on my computer, because I am using an internet-based E-mail system where nothing gets in contact with my computer until I tell it to.

When I open AHB (in fact, everytime I load a new page on the board) several viruses and Trojans attempt to load on my computer. I didn't count them exactly, but my guess is about 10-12. I don't really know how nasty they are, but BullGuard (my anti-virus and spyware programme/firewall) blocks them.

Seriously, people . . . if you don't have anti-virus software going, your computers are almost certainly pretty heavily infected now. :(

But in essence, I'm pretty sure the board has been hacked and that it is infected - E-mail or no E-mail.

Please, everyone - do some scans on your systems NOW and install a firewall and anti-spyware software. Until you have that on your computer then . . well, visiting AHB today is just not a good idea without it. Until the hack is fixed, in fact, it may be pretty dangerous to your computer. :(

Please don't just keep browsing the board without getting your system checked.

Cheers,

Jens-Kristian

AVG from Grisoft and Kerio Firewall for me. But I just wanted to make sure that others were aware of what is going on and to reassure myself.

Seems to be imbedded int he default skin. Firefox seems to be immune (for me anyway) but my IE has a coronary and tries to download a thousand virii.

Ah so that is why my firewall hasn't wigged it. I run firefox. Yet another reason to stay away from exploder!

I'm using firefox and I dont get any of that... perhaps now would be a good time for everyone to switch? Get Firefox now!

oh... and im using a Mac :p sadly it's not as simple to switch that too :p

I have no idea what the xploit may be at the moment. I have not been affected yet but that may change. I just use IE.

To everyone out there.

Use spywareblaster for another level of protection, on top of antivirus, anti adware etc.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

This does not get rid of a problem if you already have one ..so it may be too late.
What it does is prevent the installation of a lot of junk that can cause a lot of problems.

At this stage, it looks like the hoster has been compromised. This has then enabled them to alter the default page for AHB.
They have then compromised the forum and sent a bulk email. The method that may have achieved this has been altered, to hopefully stop it for now.
Further investigation happening now.

Beers,
Doc & Dane.

i also use firefox and havnt got the problem or the email. Just letting people know.

I also use firefox & thunderbird no problems/ got the nasty email shaged it & baged it all gone.

Hey, Firefox no problem here either.. although I've got the blue skin showing up now for some reason (came here after seeing (and deleting) the email to see if it was just me getting it or the whole board). A quick AV scan and spybot check detected nothing. Seems firefox is unaffected.

G'Day Guys,

I also received the dodgy e-mail. I am curious as to how many people on the forum received that e-mail. I clicked on the link without thinking but got the "can't find server message". I might have been lucky. I will be more careful in future.

Cheers Mick

I've made the changes that should fix the prob loading AHB and the trojan. Please confirm if you previously exprienced it.

Got the email to my gmail
And the trojan - luckily (and for the first time) NAV seemed to delete it OK
Kept getting this "Script Enter" bar at the top of the screen - with loads of chinese writing characters.
Switched to Firefox - no problems.
