I am going to do a BIAB as my next step up. However, I only want to end up with around 10 to 12 litres in the fermenter. Is it just a matter of cutting the recipe volumes down proportionally or are there other things I need to consider? At this stage, the budget only allows for a 20 litre pot. From experience, do you think that will be sufficient volume to do the job?

It will be perfect for that volume.
I do heaps of 10L batches in a 15L pot. Cost me about 20 bucks from Kmart.
Download a recipe developer, I use brew target and it's free but there are others available.
As a general rule, the recipes are just scaled back but have a play around with whatever software you decide on keep the grain percentages and ibu levels from your various additions the same as the recipe you are scaling.

I do 10ltrs with the aid of brewmate. it's free and easy to use

Any reason for the 10 Litres? you can easily crank out full brews using Maxi BIAB in a Big W pot.

I am not a huge drinker and would rather do more variety in smaller batches. Otherwise it takes too long to get through. If I find one I would like more of, at least I know I can crank the volume up.Thanks.
Some great encouragement from you all. I was a bit scared as it all sounds so complicated in here but then I watched a couple of Brewing TV and saw how simple it really is ( well basic brews anyway).

There's no problems with small batches as such just repeatability can be a pain, like small variations in temperature can make huge changes to the beer. Just a factor to consider and be mindful of If you don't have a temperature controlled fermentation chamber

!

It's not complicated, once you do one, it's no more complicated than making a huge batch of tea crossed with soup.
