It may be or may not be. There are different brands of extinguishers and different brands of extinguisher heads. You just need to find the right one, and the best way is to test it to see if the reg fits the thread.
Just an example, my extinguisher is a 5kg Chubb aluminium cylinder and it has a fireguard head on it-the reg attaches directly.
Otherwise if you find a cheap one you could get a brass adapter turned up for you by a fitter and turner. This may or may not be too much hastle for you, but at least now you have a heads up as to what things to look for.
