Been sticking to Lagers for the last 4 weeks, have a new mash tun design to try on wed, direct heated water jacketed base for step mashing without the risk of burning the mash. But can't decide on style due to the weather, jumped to min 13 here for the last couple of days due to cloud cover. Have heaps in the planning but just can't decide, would like to ferment something in ambient on the bench for a change, temp spread 13 - 21 waddaya reckon brewers?

Our house as a small bathroom which has been commandeered as a general-purpose brewing-related room. It recently got a cheapy heater from the supermarket to make it a warm room where beers could carb up. I've moved my fermenting fridge in there as well because I haven't got around to making the necessary mods to make it a heater as well as a cooler.

Before I made the move, a small batch of US-05 APA started at about 17degC and kept fermenting right down to about 14degC. It's still clearing, but it will be interesting to see what the lower temp does.

Got a LCPA clone in the garage that's been sitting on about 16degrees for the past 2 weeks. Perfect temp for it, judging by the taste. :p Bottling awaits, but with the Wife and bub both crook, the bottle clinking can get very annoying.

Yeah Perry, right on the money, decided last night. Have the brewshet in hand and am off to the shed to weigh and mill the grist. While it's in the fridge at lager temp will do an ale to ferment at ambient on the bench, reckon the temp shouldn't swing too much either way for the next couple of weeks.

Bit different for Batz he will have to wait a bit longer, it get's cold

Been brewing a lager for the last two weeks in my esky-brewbox. Used a small ice brick for the first few days for max activity, then the final 10 days the brew is sitting at 10 with no help. My garage temps seems to move between 7-13, excellent for lagers.
I usually pitch my ales at 18 and let the temp fall gradually to 16 or so at this time of year, and very seldom use any heating.

Steam beer !

Getting even too cold for Malty 2112's as the garage has been down to single figures.

This one's still fermenting away but I think it will take a while.

SpillsMostOfIt I did a brew with 56 this time last year as it got colder and the yeast kept on going right down to about 12 degrees and didn't fall short.
It turned out to be a good one.

The spare room is keeping a constant 13C these days.
I've managed to keep two batches fermenting at around 20C
since saturday doing nothing more than wrapping them in blankets.
Actually had to partially remove one layer of blankets, as the temp
was starting to climb.

Cooler weather brings brewing costs down.
Two ciders and a vanilla porter in my fermenting fridges at the moment.
Neither fridge even turns on, sitting at a constant 16 degrees.

Might try a lager next in one of the fridges.

FROGMAN

It's lager central here at the Farrer Ridge brewery! The garage is colder than the fridge! I've got a helles fermenting on the bench in primary right now at around 9C - it's going very slowly but it's a clean smelling ferment that should turn out nice. Ales and wheats have to be brought inside - they'll stall in the garage with this Canberra winter! Samples are easy from the lagering Dortmunder kegs - just put on a beer line and serve...no need to chill down!!
Cheers,
TL

Lagers are going great with all the cold temperatures. Bottling a batch tomorrow and will be putting a new one down very soon. Cant wait to drink them in summer :chug:
