I was just reading the back of a bottle of Hoegaarden Grand Cru.

It has "imported by Carlton & United......... 5c refund at colection depots in S.A.......

Question is

Is this stuff imported in large vats and then bottled in australia

Or is it imported in blank bottles and labeled in australia

Is it brewed here like becks and heiniken (oh i cant spell it) and sold at import beer prices.

Or do all bottles in belgium offer a 5 cent refund if you take the empty to S.A

whats the story?

cheers

Probably bottled and labeled that way from wherever it's packed in Europe.

I Used to work for a winery who did lots (and lots!) of export products... we packed and labeled lots of stuff that way (ie: with the importers/ foreign office details on the labels)

I agree with danbeer, I used to work at golden circle cannery and we exported a lot of pineapple to ASIA and EUROPE, anyway we did all the export labels here.

Beer could be a different kettle of fish but I doubt it, would be easier to export the complete cartons rather then bottles without labels needing more work once here.

yeah i kind of thought it might be that way....... but you never know :)

cheers

It'll be brewed, bottled and labeled at either the Leuven or Hoegaarden InBev plant (probably Leuven).

Even the draught Hoegaarden (White) is imported in small kegs rather than contract brewed or imported in larger quantities.
