It's not that hard.

Check out MAME.

I made one a few years ago, the design was a bit **** tbh. I stripped it down and still have the parts for my next one.
It's on my to do list along with a bar.

I grew up playing those old arcade games so it was great fun for me. Space invaders, Scramble, Defener, Gorf etc. classics.

I know a good place to get Arcade parts also :)

Every brew room needs a MAME cabinet.

(ignore mess, it's been tidied since then)
I also recommend http://www.aussiearcade.com.au/forum.php instead of arcadecontrols. Lots of friendly helpful people there with details about local suppliers.
And like home brew systems - finish what you start.
great forum that one, we're a sponsor of them.. we also provide a 5% discount for the aussiearcade forum members..

details can be found here http://www.aussiearcade.com.au/showthread.php/60594-Aussie-Arcade-Member-s-Discount

Cheers

moad, I too am working on one of these.

It's the auto pour part I am stuck on, building a mame machine is easy as piss.

But building a PID to do the pouring of a beer on the winning of a round is tough.

Anyone?

wouldn't it just be a timer relay?

so a timer relay for player 1 and player 2.. whoever wins the relay is ran..

Yeah I meant the auto pour depending on who won not building a MAME box, already done that part.

Here is what a mate said...

The tricky part would be triggering it when there is a victory. For an old emulated arcade game that doesn't use address space randomisation you could just monitor memory locations at a low level.
For a windows game you could disassemble the executable and patch it.

IANAME, but I think this is achievable using a USB controller to trigger to solenoid valves, something like:
http://sigma-shop.com/.../-usb-eight-channel-relay...
and some solenoid valves, like:

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10456
and a developer to write some code that monitors the game and triggers the appropriate valve upon gamer victory.

Ha, well there you go gava I've actually bought stuff off you before. T-moulding and some player buttons by memory (got the other gear off ozstick because I went Sanwa all the way).

Re: outputs for beer dispensing, Ond on the said forum put together what's probably the best home-made arcade system in the world (no kidding). He used outputs from the software to connect to a stepper motor, which determined the position of a rotating monitor. It would be harder to get something from in-game though but Moad's post might address this.

Was thinking... maybe hook up an output from the coin slot so that it dispenses beverage when money is added? You can see I have a lot of respect for visitors.

*disclaimer* - Possibly speaking from my arse.

Would hooking into the MAME code be the way forward?
Hiscore.dat can monitor scores already so a modified version of that code that ran with each game instance instead of overall?

I've heard that Outputting from mame can be difficult, But I'm no programmer and haven't looked into it.. was just a passing comment I heard.

TheWingman : Yeah we only stock Sanwa joysicks at the moment.. Will look at a stocking more in the coming months.. if you need any parts give me a bell we do orders often from one of our suppliers so probably could get some stuff thrown in.

Yeah no idea, I'm no coder either but it would be worth looking at considering how long it would take to write a spoof of the games
