Hey guys

I just got a bag of dried malt extract in the mail. It has a big hole in it.

They're gonna send me another one, but was just wondering if I should hang onto the bag, or just chick it out?

Could've been open for weeks or months I guess.

I would think it'd go bad like anything led open?

Cheers

Its all good - you most likely boil it anyway?

Sweet with the free bag though :)

If i was using it it would be in the boil somewhere and id be stoked with a free bag of dme

Or if you step up yeast starters and you had concerns about the malt, you could boil it in the water to make the stepping wort.

I've had DME gone absolutley off the planet in a jar I've kept it in before and there was no way to physically be able to use it. Threw the jar out. You will know what I'm talking about if it's like that. If not, use it. It's getting boiled anyway. Freebie high five.

dried malt extract sucks up water so if its powder and not a rock will be ok.

I would use it too. I am confident that nothing can survive the 15 minute pressure cook I subject my starters to or the 90 minute boil the wort gets. If it can, I could publish a paper about it.
