at least there is one thing cheaper here than in Australia ;)

10kg of Pilsener malt -> 5.0 Euro
200l of tab water -> 0.50 Euro
3kg of propane -> 3.00 Euro
Electricity ~ -> 1.00 Euro
Caustic soda ~ -> 0.50 Euro
Citric acid ~ -> 0.50 Euro
Yeast -> nix

total sum 10.50 Euro = ~ A$17.00 for 60l of beer

thats beside the hardware.

The real price depends on the brewing frequency and the "bling factor" of the hardware.

Cheers :icon_cheers:

So a 25kg bag of malt is only 12.50 Euros?

That's about $AUD22

1kg of hops = 15 Euros

That's about $AUD26

This and the $9 Pint thread sure put a damper on beer in Australia

SWMBO always wanted to move to europe :)

If some one organised a bulk buy - they'd be pretty close to getting ingredients for free!

Cheers

yeah, but also here the prices are rising eminently.

Just I had a look for new prices and got shocked:
last year Ive paid 42 Euro for 100kg of Pilsener malt, this year the price raised to 65 Euro for 100kg.
Hops Ive paid 15 Euro for one Kilo, actually the Magnum costs 36 Euro, thats more than double.
uuuups....Northern Brewer lays about 40 Euro/kg ....Ive paid 13 Euro last year :eek:
Saazer 52 Euro at the moment....Im shocked

fortunately I have a lot of stuff in stock.

so Im gonna celebrate each beer Im drinking prospectively....

Is that the same in Australia? Prices are rising that much?

I think the cost per litre argument is looking at brewing from the wrong perspective.

Brewing is my hobby where I get entertainment for approx 5hrs and costs only roughly $25.
So the cost is $5/hr.
This is a lot cheaper than going to the footy or hiring 5 or 6 videos.

The bonus of brewing as a hobby is not only do you get the enjoyment for 5hr, you also get 25 litres of quality beer at the end of the process for free!!

This is how I explain it to SWMBO
Cheers
