I'm surprised it took you that long to pick that up!

Ahh /b/... thought I'd see what all the fuss was about, but someone linked me this and I thought... "hmmm... nah"

I'll leave this as a link as it's rather rude/uncouth: Link

wELL WELL

Those who poo-pooed all this are in for a shock. Marco -polo seems to be nothing better than Columbus hops themselves.

Bloody hell, we will need the Australian Govt to escort this hop ship. Its valuable.

BUT

Important news on the Bulk BUy thread.

we are taking satchels for the order.

do look there if you have placed an order.

Ah sweet irony back whn everyone poo pooed them and their Chinesey naming and I told Fourstar wouldn't it be ironic if Marco Polo turns out to be the best hops in the bunch :)

Go Marco Polo! Glad I was ballsy enough to get a kilo :)

Cheers,
Brewer Pete

farkin hell that red dragon thread is tops...

and the other side of the /b/ is:

A US hop (Columbus) gets grown in China and the result is called "Marco Polo". I love it!!! I reckon the Chinese sense of
humour might be a tad closer to us than the Americans.

I'm not shocked. For the same reason I wasn't shocked when I heard that the Chinese were growing "Saaz" hops.

If the Chinese start growing Pinot Noir grapes, I won't be expecting a fantastic French Burgundy.

Bumped so people can chat about the hop buy and leave the other thread for the business

Wow, a nice stack of hops there!

Hop Pics Post

Lots of brewing before Xmas it would seem!

Well done to all involved thus far in getting that hoppy goodness onto our fair shores! :icon_cheers:

Yes indeed.

For those who missed out, I might get this MIGHT do another order after Christmas.

I am near definite at doing "The Great Chinese Hop Buy 2010" October 2010.

Everyone

The hops for this years order are pack and almost in the mail. To those who missed out, as well as any future interests here is your chance for a say in things

I need some feedback.

1. Was the prepaid self addressed satchels the way to go or not
2. Is minimum 1 kg orders ok
3. Anything good or bad in general
4. any recommendations

From the other thread was easy for the packers, but in my case I ended up sending 3 x 3kg bags, so not the most cost effective. Not complaining as we did need to keep it easy for the packers.
2. Is minimum 1 kg orders ok
Myself I think 1kg is ok, once they get delivered we can split them up into smaller amounts outside of the general buy, I would hate to think an order this size with 250g bags - I can imagine it "can I get 90g of Marco Polo"
3. Anything good or bad in general
Good: the price, and for you always keeping us up to date. Bad: the amount of delays in China
4. any recommendations
let's get some hallu / hersbr... on the move :)

I only started looking around this place one the buy had been set in motion; wish I got a chance to join in the fun.
1kg would last me a year at least, but I do agree with what 'QLDKev' has said about the 90g example. Maybe 500g bags?? (guess I could rope some work mates into going halves).

OK for me. Way to go to save the packers time imo.

2. Is minimum 1 kg orders ok
Yeah, at that price its the way to go

3. Anything good or bad in general
The long wait! ;)

4. any recommendations
Make it an annual pilgrimage! :D

Echoing other comments you have done smashingly well on this order Graham.

Look forward to seeing some hoppy goodness in the mail soon!

As someone who watched from the sidelines I say good effort. It takes balls to organise something like this that obviously has a risk factor involved.

1 - I'm not a fan of this personally.
2 - Yes, at that price you'd be stupid to want anything less than 1kg.
3 - Love your full disclosure. I feel perhaps the process in general could be more democratic.
4 - As mentioned in the other thread, could get the Chinese to handle getting the hops into the correct sizes for each individual order and packaging that order and labelling it with the persons name. They could then add to a pallet or a can We could then have a logistics company handle the individual deliveries and it may work out cheaper or comparable, without the need for manual work and without the need to use Australia post. Would save a lot of work on this end and there'd be less handling of the hops etc. This may be something I could organise at work and we have a cold room as well. Something to think about.

G'Day All

By the sounds of it, the pack went well.

Also its timely to state the bleeden obvious too.

1. Yes sorting and packing ALL these hops will result in occasional errors. It doesn't surprise me AT ALL that at the end of the pack there were errors "gee where did the Marco Polo go, why do we have cluster and saaz left over"

This is normal. To all brewers out there receiving hops, check what you got. I am confident from what has been described the hop labelling will be correct. , BUT your order may be different due to this error (some-one would have a wrong order)

and

2. I have NEVER done a big hop bulk buy yet where some-one doesn't get what they want, or gets upset over the process. With over a hundred people, nearly 1/2 ton of hops, orgnising this from afar with people all over Australia, YES some-one will feel hard done by.

Sorry about that but "**** HAPPENS"

Just understand.

Now to follow up on the feedback for next time.

Keep the feedback coming.

BUT

You know why democracy doesn't work, why we have **** governments, and crap politicians.

"Democracy allows idiots to vote, and unfortuntely we have more idiots than sensible people, so we get what we diserve."

Politicans know this. On the hop buy front. Its a similar vein that I can't make it totally open and vote on all issues

I WOULD GO SPARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
