In general it is still true, but yes, there are high-alpha varieties that are challenging the science. That's not to say that it's not true in general still.

Part of your result would be the FWH - another unknown cause of decreased harshness. Fix (Principles of Brewing Science) hints at a 20% reduction in isocohumulone from FWH.

Still, I'm not going to bet my money on an unknown hop being better than Czech Saaz.

You're really enjoying that brewing science book, aren't you? :p

Wow thats interesting. So why exactly do people knock FWH then?!?

They like wasting hops?

In breaking news, a cargo ship carrying Chinese Hops has become stuck on the Great Barrier Reef.

Thankfully, the entire east coast of Australia has suddenly become more aromatic...

Recent attempts to encourage the dozens of green-polo-shirt wearing swimmers back to shore have failed.

Now, back to CSI: Queensland.

Just that kinda mood tonight I guess.

Hello, law of diminishing returns. Good to see you again.

Hi Beachy
Thanks for the positive feedback!
We like to keep everyone up to date with the info from our suppliers etc.
We have been sending out crop reports for many years now :)
Thanks Again

I just can't let this one pass...in your newsletter, you claim to be able to guarantee minimal herbicide and pesticide use because you do testing....ah...ah....ah...********!

All you can guarantee from that is any herbicides and pesticides used have minimal to undetectable levels remaining (i.e. residues)...the producer could have flooded the damn field with pesticides and herbicides and your testing would not tell you anything about that...all the testing suggests is that the producer undertook at least the appropriate witholding period for any chemicals used!

Absolute pet hate is people overstating the facts!

:D :D :D

Those 3 Horatio comics are so lame, that I can't stop laughing.

Tried to watch a whole episode the other night, and just couldn't get past the cheeziness of that bloke.
Now I have no chance....

no big loss

Keep it up,

Marlow

QB, must say I wish I had your computer skills and know how.
Ah well, you can`t teach an old dog new tricks :(

stagga.

stick to your day job you obviously know NOTHING about fresh food production in australia

dont like other people overstating the facts hey? <_<

Looking forward to standing on the dune behind my place (If the ship turns up during daylight hours?) & seeing the pilot fall off the boarding ladder overcome by hop aroma. :icon_drool2:

LOL

Crying shame that I know "nothing" given my roles in the industry.

Note the word "could", never said anybody "did"...but testing at the end will not tell you they "didn't"...

Also note that Ellerslie do not differentiate which products they test...so my statment does not infact only relate to the AUSTRALIAN food industry...

Maybe you should stick to food production and not comment on laboratory testing and what can and can't be determined from the results...as should Ellerslie?

Hey I had a thought

since the Oceanic Viking is in the area, perhaps they can escort our hops to Australia. That way those pesky hop pirates wont get our hops.

we could put those refugees to good use too, they can pack the hops while they are doing nothing.
