wasn't that hey hey its saturday skit racist or racialist
Well guys it wasn't racist, as it was a copy of the same idectial skit on the show 10 years ago.
It all blew up mainly because that USA guy got offended. Actually heard on ABC radio a socialogist explain it quite well
Goes something like this
"Times are changing and what was ok 20 years ago is not ok now, BUT its not racism, I must point that out. 20 years ago, racial skits were perfectly ok, and standard in Australia. No one got insulted. But you did insult some-one if you made sexual statements at them, that was taboo.
Progress to today, where the Internet is king, globalisation, and we are immersed in the USA culture. The American on hey hey its Saturday wasn't talking to Australian when he make his comments, he was talking to the USA, as he knows this skit will go global, and didn't want to be appart of it for fear back home in the USA.
In 2009, real racism is a distant past for young people, Nazi Germany, World War II, The KKK, White Australia policy, - all those thing are a memory for many, and as such, peoples attitudes, now being swayed by the USA, makes racism anything that insults another race. On the other hand, with the liberal sexual attitude of todays people, sexual insults are common place and no longer insultung.
Is it right or wrong, its neither, its just changing times. I have no doubt in another 20 years, we see the attitudes change again"
I found his logic hard to argue against.
Changing times, and attitudes
Thank god I am an old fart and wont change
