Hi
I've just started brewing some beer and want to try and keep costs down while I give it a go, is there any chance someone could lend me one of those upright bottle cappers to bottle my first brew and save me buying one? I'm in Sydney north side.
Thanks.

i got an old one you can have if you want to come pick up in Mosman.....

i found it on the side of the road in council pickup.... to be honest i have not used it but it seem to be fine after i sprayed it with wd40 :)

i have PMed you as well

Good on you, Maheel. A top gesture towards a new brewer to help him on his way.

I used one of these when I first started ... almost guaranteed to break one bottle each brew.
+1 to a bench capper or anything else that does not involve whacking a crude capping utensil with a mallet!

I must be the only person to ever use one of those and NEVER chip/crack/break a bottle....

I still have mine, although now that I have a bench capper I don't use it anymore...

If you do end up buying one, i;ve found that the ones that aren't brigalow are better. They have more size range and pop the bottles out after its capped. Failing that, the hand cappers are pretty good, i used one for a lot of years. I found capping on top of some newspapers cushioned the blows somewhat and prevent the odd smashed bottle.

If you have (access to) a drill press, you could try attaching one of those hand cappers to it. You might need to remove the handle and attach some kind of shaft, but the result works a treat (and doesn't take up as much space).
