Nah, that's just coincidence.

Well I've picked up an oktoberfest and a dunkel hefe weissbier so today I'm on a mission to
get a real dunkel ... alt dunkel, whatever they're called.

Any brands anyone? So far I just got paulaner, but I have a funny feelling paulaner is munich's answer to west end. :)

ohhh NO, please dont buy beer at the supermarket, better you go to a "Getrnkemarkt" thats similar to the Australians Bottle shops. There the beer is always fresh and they have a much larger choice of brands. Or much better would be to go to Kloster Andechs, have a tour through the brewery and buy the probably best beer in the world there :)

have a nice stay in Germany

I recommend you go to the breweries.
Some are walking distance from the centre of town.
Most have a Restaurant.
The Lowenbrau is a short walk(found it accidentally... followed my nose!), had a meal there with many glasses of fresh Franziskaner.
Augustiner is a little out of town but still, I walked. Had an awesome meal and tried to have many of every beer on the menu. The Augustiner brewery is cheaper and better than their restaurant in the centre of town! And few tourists.
Got lost one night while walking around and found Paulaner, worth it just to look at all the brew gear.
Hofbrau was interesting, but I didn't stay. Expensive and full of tourists... and that was in winter!
A short train ride(30 mins?) to Aying is recommended. Tour the Ayinger brewery, then get a meal at their pub in town(a short walk, and worth it!) called 'Liebhard's' Best meal I've ever had and the fresh Celebrator Doppelbock was f****ing awesome.

Enjoy!

Hi Zwickel,

I've been getting some Andechs from the Getrnkemarkt but I'm a bit perplexed ... why can't I find weihenstephaner in the shops? Its just made down the road for pete's sake!

Any clues?

Hi Zwickel,

hmmm......dunno, each shop has its own selection....maybe the Bavarians there say: "why I should buy Weihenstephaner when I can get Andechser?"

just have a look at another Getrnkemarkt.

btw. in Germany the brand "Fosters" is a synonym for Australian beer, but I hardly could find when I was in Australia

Australian's don't like Fosters ... can you blame us?

I'll ask some locals about the weihenstephaner, maybe they only sell from the brewery here.

i think he's hinting that IHO it's ****, and you should try the other brand. Give it a go!

Gee! Thanks tangent.

I just got a bottle of andechs and there's an empty sitting in HWMBO trophy collection. :)
HWMBO likes weihenstephaner, however and there are other bavarian beers that I don't see
in the shops. Perhaps I need to find a better bottle. shop.

if the brewery is just down the road, why don't you ask them?

gutten tag, ich liebe du weizen und haben euros(??)

hahahaha....if you say that, they wouldnt give you beer anymore hahahaha

btw. for my taste, Id say, Andechser and Weihenstephaner are the best beers you may get there.

Hertie has a great range of beers. It's a department store believe it or not. Besides the obvious in Munich. I took a real shine to Andechs beer. Hertie always had a good range of it for drinking in the hotel room. :)

Other than that sit at the Augustiner Keller, Donisl (nice food) or Das Weisse Brauhaus (Schneider). All good.

Some folks have all the luck.

Thanks Warren,

I was going to go to Herties looking for beer glasses. Its HWMBO birthday soon. I really fancy the villeroy and bock ones. :)

So I'll check out the beer when we're there.

What if I said "ich bin eine braufrau"? Would they fall about laughing? :D

No, no, there is nothing to laugh about, would be just perfect german, although braufrau sounds a bit strange for people who dont know much about beer production, if you wanna say that you are a professionell brewer, youd rather say. "Ich bin eine Brauerin" (Brauer = male, Brauerin= female). Braufrau you may use more in a privat and/or hobby surroundings.

have a nice time, despite that crappy weather :)

Try Max Krug in Neuhauser Strasse 2. Great range of branded glasswear and steins. I must confess to the prices being a bit on the steep side though. However will bring out the tourist in you. :icon_cheers:
