Just sent an email to Coopers:

Hi being an avid Coopers drinker is there any chance the barcode on the cardboard six pack packaging could be moved to the side of the pack instead of underneath. I cringe every time I buy a six pack and the blissfully ignorant checkout person turns it upside down to scan and in turn mixes the yeast (wonderful as it is) throughout the bottles? Just a thought? I personally dont mind but I am sure there are lots of other avid coopers drinkers who like to pour it clear? Love to hear your thoughts? Keep up the good work. Cheers!

:p
Cheers

1 quick solution if you don't want the yeast through the beer - buy a carton. :super:

Wise, wise words!

Yeah I get your point...but then the young lad who goes out the back to collect the carton will come out with it on his shoulder sideways and then hands it to you upside down :D
Cheers

Let's be honest.. thats probably better treatment than it got when they pulled it off the delivery truck and left it stacked every which way in the sun till they couild get it inside...

If you like it clear buy a case and a six pack. The six pack you can drink now while you wait a few days for the case to settle.

cheers
Dave

You could always drink it before you go to the register. Just hand 'em the empty sixpack and pay.

Best you walk home rather than drive though.

There are no problems only solutions. :beerbang:

Warren -

As someone who works as a checkout operator, there is a 'zone' in which the barcode can be read- and this is on both horizontal and vertical planes. Checkout operators are encouraged to use the horizontal one, because 'sliding stock is better than lifting it'.

Anyway, my point is that the checkout operator doesn't need to tilt the six pack to scan it, just lift it, hover it over the scanner and it will scan from beneath. All ColesMyer scanners should be the same (I don't know about other stores).

I ordered a Coopers PA at the pub last night. The barmaid took the stubby from the fridge and rolled it back and forth along a bar mat a few times before serving it to me. I found it a little curious, especially when I asked for a glass with the beer. Anyhow, she seemed to like her Coopers - she was complaining that they didn't have it on tap.

umm shaken not stired .

bar staff are generally instructed to mix the yeast by rolling the bottle before serving, it's a tasty part of the beer
maybe you should be drinking Dr.Tims or the lager if you don't like the yeast.

Might be tasty, but I still ain't drinkin it...
Once it's Alcohol and carbonated hat yeast can bugger off :)

Hey mika, why not?

Practically every brew lover around the world knows that you are supposed to pour the beer gently off the yeast in bottle conditioned beers. But, some people (mainly south aussies... strange bunch of people <_< ... Just moved from there recently. TIC. Hi Ken!) actually like the taste of the yeast in their beer for some strange reason.

Coopers suggest that the yeast in the bottles is stirred up prior to serving. It's on their website! Beats me why, as their stuff on tap isn't cloudy with yeast. A bit inconsistent really.

Anyway, every time I was served a stirred up bottle of Coopers in a bar I always asked for another one unstirred, whether they'd opened it or not. I got some strange looks (that's not unusual), but I won't drink yeast cloudy beer.

BTW, Coopers Pale Ale is one of the better 'state' beers out there. I class it as 'Below Average' on my own beer appreciation scale. All of the other 'state' beers (VB, XXXX, etc) range from 'Bloody Awful' (Boags) to 'Torture Implement I'd Use On My Worst Enemy' (XXXX) down to the bottom of the scale 'Nuclear Waste - Fit Only To Be Fired Into The Sun' (VB)

Joel,

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules about what you are supposed to do with a beer (other than drink it).

Wheat beers, for one, don't follow this 'rule' and as far as I'm concerned, bottles of Coopers Pale or Sparkling don't fit it either - I prefer mine mixed to share the yeasty love. And I prefer a bottle of Coopers over the tap stuff any day. I'm sure a lot of beer lovers do.

I guess that's why I like brewing so much... I caters for all tastes. Just when I think I've found the most god-awful beer out there, someone will say, "Hey, I like this!". On my last trip to Darwin a mate searched all over town far a case of Emu of all things. To him, nectar of the gods. To me, 'Torture Implement I'd Use On My Worst Enemy'.

Joel,

I see you have a couple of implements of torture: Emu and XXXX.

Do you have a secret lair with a dungeon full of kegs of Emu and XXXX ready to unleash on your next unsuspecting enemy?

When I lived in Tas (I had the operation and was exiled) we used to call Boags 'sex on the river bank'.
Not that the Cascade red was much better.
After HB I don't even enjoy Cascade premium.
I retired a couple of years ago and now work a couple of nights a week in a pub, the boss tells me I'm not allowed to drink on the job, absolutely no worries there sunshine, Carlton Draught and Tooheys Light on tap, both bloody awful, and I usually cop a spray from a faulty gun at least once a night.

I wouldnt be so sure about that. If nothing else have a look at a bottle of Hoegaarden wit for their advice on pouring their beer. They certainly say to mix and pour! - each to their own I guess.

Cheers BDB

i wouldn't dream of missing out on any belgian yeast, for brewing or drinking
and a nice german hefe wouldn't be the same

The staff at the Lowenbrau make sure they get all of the yeast out of the bottle when pouring a 'Franziskaner'. I reckon they'd kick you out if you asked for it to be left in the bottle...

Nein! Das ist verboden!
