Aldi for example regularly have meat offerings that you rarely find in the butchers anymore.
Ive always found that asking the Butcher will almost certainly get results.

We pretty much only buy from the local butcher these days and get gets any cut I ask for.

A few weeks ago I was at Harris Farm butcher and they had small (15cm by 20cm) vacuum packed portions of brisket. It wasn't trimmed all that well and the price was something like $27/kg. As I turned a few over, the butcher asked me if I needed help. I said, "Yeah, I want to BBQ a slab of brisket, something about 20 times the size of what you have here. Do you think you could do that for me and at a more reasonable price?" The butcher instantly got a huge grin on his face and said, "I'll bring it out and you tell me how much you want." So, he brings out the whole side, about 150cm long and about 30cm wide. My eyes lit up and I took about 3/4 of the whole piece. He also trimmed it really nicely for me and it ended up being only $16/kg. It's definitely a good idea to talk to your butcher and tell them exactly what you want to cook and how. If it is something tricky, they may need a bit of notice, but a good butcher will be able to help with just about anything.

Rocked up to Lismore Aldi this morning, no Oktoberfest beer.
Bugger.
So I did the rounds with the trolley and when I got back to the liquor "cave" a lass was attempting to fill the shelves with 2 full pallets of Oktober goodness while the vultures descended.

Still heaps left, great to see them actually opening the flood gates this year, it was a bit patchy last year. I just got a 4 pack of 500ml and a 6 of Oktoberfest regular.

Best thing about Oktoberfest beer specials is the Steins... Paulaner stein and a litre of beer $15

Might pick up one of the Hofbrau hefe 6 packs too

Hope they still have a bike stand on Sat morning when i go to get one if not i'm just getting beer...

Might get into some mowing later.

i looked at the 4 pack and decided for an extra 10 i could get the 5L munich hell

I'm drinking and liking very much the Hacker Pschorr from the 4 pack

Going to my local Aldi tomorrow for some more "groceries" including that stein and 1l can pack - after I mow the back lawn. :chug:

Bribie as for the lederhosen I thought you only wore the braces......

My 6 pack of hofbrau original evaporated, might ask for a replacement cos SURELY it should have lasted longer?!

It's very strange, once you crack the top it just seems to disappear.

You'd better buy another 6 pack and record carefully what happens.....

ps. I like the Spaten from the 4 pack too - the others - meh!

it would be great if they ever got Flensburg back again, hopefully during Oktoberfest.
I emailed them a while back asking if they would get it into their online shop, but they said it wasn't on their cards atm.
Maybe if we all email them...

Bribie, if you ever see them in your local let mw know, I'll transfer you some money and send a courier around to pick them up!

First beer I ever drank as a very young boy and probably the only beer for the next five years or so as Flensburg was the next big town to where I grew up.

I've only recently tossed a Flens bottle from the fridge that I think has been there for 2 years or more.
Didn't like it. Found no reason to drink it. Finally threw it out to make way for a keg.

Wish we could grog at the local ALDI, but no.........
The local Woolies had the Octoberfesst 4 pack a few years back but never again, shame its a nice pack.

My local Aldi 2 mins drive away has not sold a single Hofbrau slab or 6 pack except for the 6 pack of hefe that i bought. October is looking good.

I enjoy the Flensberg beers as well. The local store seems to have them every 9 months or so. They only ever bring in the Pilsener and the Wheat Beer styles. There is really nothing to fault with them, and I would consider the Pilsener to be up there with the best. I wish they would bring some of the other styles in from the same brewery to try.

We finally have Aldi in Perth. We just now have to wait for our Nanny alcohol laws to catch up so that Aldi can actually sell it here.

I'm up in Byron at the moment, and was shocked to find the same thing here. Was looking forward to picking up some of their Oktoberfest beers, but no liquor section

Lismore is only about 35mins down the road - go via Bangalow. Some towns don't have liquor at Aldi, for example Taree or Casino, due to locals, publicans, Colesworth etc who have the local council and the Licensing Commission in their pockets and put up petitions about the current levels of alcohol abuse and drunkenness in their towns. Not that BWS or LL are ever refused a licence.

Next week, the 3L Karmeliter mini kegs are on sale.
