I am just mashing up a brew now but remembered I have something to do in a few hours so I was wondering how would it go if I finished mashing and sparging all the wort into my kettle and then left it there unboiled for an hour or 2 then boiled it when I was finished?

Would this be ok? I susspect it would as the boil would kill any nasties that might happen in the time it is sitting..?

I can put a lid on my kettle to help a little...

This is exactly how most of my brew sessions work Slugger.
I mash and sparge then put a lid on the wort for 1-2 hours while I do kids sport, then start the boil when I come home.
Haven't had any problems.

Beers,
Doc

A couple hours won't hurt, if you're leaving it overnight or a day or something like that then I'd squeeze in a 15 minute boil before leaving it, if possible.

Thanks Kai, good info to know.

it only ended up being a hour so everything was all good. Thanks to my new NASA burner I have finished brewing for the day. Got to love the power of the bruner. Up and boiling within 20 mins.

Has cut around an hour + off my brewing day.
