Looks like extract brewing
Yeah, seems like another one of those systems "designed to make brewing easy", but in reality is just a cash-grab for pubs looking to get a piece of the craft beer movement.

Did you look at the financials?

Since the 'brewing' process prior to yeast addition is 6-8 hours, I'm guessing they are not presupplied with wort (an awful lot of liquid) but that article contains some misunderstanding of the process
My guess is smale scale full mash brew with a high level of automation and a chilling cycle.

Happy to be wrong.

"customers are supplied with fresh wort, hops and yeast"

I tried to get more info but the website is down. Hopefully not a reflection on the quality of the product.

Website says 6 x 25kg boxes of "fresh wort" per brew, which equates to 7 x 50L kegs of finished product @ 5% ABV.

Hopefully the brewpub scene here will go the way of people looking for unique beers, rather than just fresh beer, which is their big marketing point. Their only outpost in Portland, OR (one beer mecca) is, um, not encouraging.

Edit: That said, the whole brewpub thing in the States has gotten big enough that many, if not most, major hotels, conference centers and such are expected by the public to have a brewpub onsite. Many of these are extract based, and this system fits that perfectly, and probably makes better beer. So I guess I should say that hopefully the brewpub scene here will get big enough that this system finds its niche, but most places brew from scratch.

You could go to the next step and buy it pre packaged so you dont have to muck about with fermentation

Maybe it's really fast yeast and it is fermented out in 6-8 hours............

I thought that too but they specify a fermentation/conditioning process of a few weeks.

Because of this thread I now know about yuccis and wish I didn't.

It's AMAZING, they sell you fermenters and FWKs....

Wow.

Remember the old days when you would spend all day knee deep in grains and wort and stuff..

Now you just pour in the pre-mix wort, press a button and go watch whatever hipsters watch...
