Hey guys

Have put the finishing touches on my kegging system and all that is left it to balance the thing. I've decided not to do an AG for the first lot to be kegged because I'm not fond of going through the expense and hassel of making an AG just to waste some of it when balancing. Anyway just wanting some pointers on the recipe below, not sure about the hop additions

1 can coopers LME
1 can coopers DME
200g of weyermann carahell
200g of weyermann carapils

Amarillo 20g 60mins
Amarillo 20g 15mins
Amarillo 20g 5 mins

using US 05 yeast.

Will steep the grain in a few litres of water for an hour remove grains, boil for one hour adding hops accordingly and then stir in the malt extract and make up to 23 litres

Cheers

Aaron

Why the can of dark malt? And I don't think you'll need the carapils at all. When doing all malt brews in my experience head retention and body are fine

If you were going for something darker, but with the pale ale hopping, I'd ditch the dark malt can and use 300g of Carafa Spec 3. Not sure it would work for my taste though

Used a recipe from the DB but changed the hops, so not sure why the use of DME might just be for the colour more so than anything else, what do you reckon about the hop additions, timing ok ?

Are you sure it's a tin of dark malt? And not 1kg of dry malt (light), which would make sense because you could boil the hops in the dry malt with 10L water and add the tin of liquid malt at flameout. This gives the advantage of not doing a full volume boil whilst still getting good utilisation from the hops. If this is the case then the hopping looks ok to me, haven't put it through BS or anything but looks pretty neat. Can you give a linky link to the recipe
