Ok guys
I have been on the phone with the rep today regarding a few things, trying to get this bulk buy wrapped up so that we can place an order.
Firstly I have a price for replacement probes which I am not very impressed with:
HI 99151 (1297D electrode) $304
HI 98128 (73127 electrode) $101
HI 98103 (1270 electrode) $43.50 (This one is irrelevant because no one is getting any of this meter)
All prices are excl. GST and freight.
Basically I asked her to explain why the replacement probes are more than the cost of the meter itself.
Her answer was that the price that we are getting the meters for is much cheaper because we are buying 20 of them.
Secondly I asked about the price of the HI 99151 and this was the response:
Unfortunately, I can’t really go any lower on the HI 99151 as the cost price plus freight and duties wont allow me to break even at $300.
Thirdly I forwarded this message from HoppinMad for a response:
"Just a word of warning regarding the 99151. I bought one of these a couple of years ago and after 18 months it stopped showing steady readings. I called hannah and they said that is an indication that the probe needed replacing. Unfortunately the probes are only guaranteed for 6 months and apparently it is generally recommended that they be replaced every two years anyway. A new probe for that model is worth about $240 from memory.... yes almost as much as the meter itself! Anyway, might be worth a call to Hannah to ask them for detailed info regarding that model. They are much more accurate yes... but they are also much more complex and require a higher level of maintenance."
This was the response in red:

and after 18 months it stopped showing steady readings pH electrodes life expectancy is 1-2 years.

A new probe for that model is worth about $240 from memory.... yes almost as much as the meter itself The electrode is the most important part of the pH meter, think of it like an engine for a car. The pH meter can only work if the electrode is good.!
Anyway, might be worth a call to Hannah to ask them for detailed info regarding that model This meter is relatively new (less than one year).
They are much more accurate yes... but they are also much more complex and require a higher level of maintenance. All pH electrodes and meters need to be maintained properly, just like your car with regular oil changes and servicing. It does not matter if you have a pen style tester or a ph meter with robust probe. Please see electrode instruction guide attached for the proper Maintenance for ALL pH electrodes, every model and every brand.
Sorry HoppinMad, please don't shoot the messenger
Last of all, Aydos was asking if he could add a thermometer to the bulk buy, he was looking at this one:
www.hannainst.com.au/learn_more/c:HI+98509
We can get this one for $40 + gst and (and postage).
If anyone wants one, put your name down but get in quick because I am hoping to make an order soon.
So the thermometer brings us to 20 units.
So long as no one decides to pull out due to the information above, we will be ready to place an order very soon.
I will be sending out a group PM to ask everyone to confirm that they are still in on this very soon.
Thanks guys
