Melbourne: Grain Bulk Buy - Last for 2013

Plenty of people make plenty of awesome beer with either. I got all wound up because my LHBS subbed JW Pils for Best Pils on a grain order for a Kolsch (they were unexpectedly out of all the Euros). The kolsch was great. Was it true to form? Hell, I've never been to Cologne. How would I know? That said I do tend to go Euro for Euro beers, Aussie for Aussie beers, etc.

Pretty sure the Briess and probably anything else American is in 50 pound bags which works out to around 22kg.


I so want in on this bulk buy but the last few months I've been spending like a fiend and we're just about to reno the bathroom. Will have to see what I can squirrel away. h34r:

Victory and biscuit are reasonable subs for each other. Victory/biscuit complement aromatic well but to my mind aromatic is a stronger flavoured malt and requires a judicious hand (all do but aromatic slightly more than the other two).

I think i may go a 1/2 sack of Simpson's Amber also.... like a fat kid in a candy store! h34r:



And maybe i'll just get a few kg's of Aromatic, Melanoiden, Crystal, etc from G&G seperately (unless it's possible to organise a 5-way split?). I'd love to try quite a few of the Spec Grains, but 1/2 a sack is waaaay too much for me to use of these over the next 1-2 years.
Is it viable to organise 5-way splits, or is it going to be too much dicking around?

I'm also keen on the Vienna split too.

U can do splits as many times as possible..LOL.. but the orders are for full bags and must be bought and sorted out as full bags.. (all splits must be worked out independent of the order ...just like I have done and technobabble
