No offence intended, but the wiring diagram you linked seems pretty straightforward to me, and i know bugger all about electronics. Perhaps you should let someone who knows what they're doing to get it wired up for you ;)

er... no offense taken. Perhaps if it were a Fridgemate the help would be a little less on the cold side.

I think the wiring diagram "appears" straightforward but it is always a little more straightforward if you have some help from someone who has already done this. Isn't that what this forum is for?

And Sammus, haven't you set this up?

Anyway, thanks for your help...

These requests even for Fridgemates get a similar chilly response. At the end of the day your dealing with 240V and unless you are qualified you really shouldn't be messing with it, cos its dangerous.

There are people who are not qualified who've wired these up no worries, but they had enough knowledge to know what they were doing (note 240V wiring is illegal if your not qualified).

People aren't trying to be unhelpful, they simply don't want to see you hurt (or worse) yourself or someone else cos you only half understood what what you were doing.

Those wiring diagrams are def. complete enough for someone who should be doing the job. Do you know a sparky you can sling a few beers to in exchange for wiring?

Hi Ben,
I got to agree with Supra Jim. If your uncertain what you're doing don't touch 240V. Perhaps fill in your location in your profile and someone nearby can help you wire one up? If your in Perth towards Fremantle, you can drop in and I'm happy to help.

I have wired one up. I can't give you any electrical tips (as I just used that diagram) but I can offer some housing comments. Jiffy box was from Dick Smith along with rubber grommets to stop cables rubbing on plastic edges and the wireing block. I think I used a 1.5 or a 3m extension lead from Bunnings to make the two ends. Whichever it was the lead was a bit long and it gets tangled with everything on top of the fridge, so have a good think about how long you want the plug and socket. I placed the connector plug/socket for the probe inside the jiffy box and added some strain relief in the form of twin taped at intervals to the probe lead and tied to the jiffy box. This also tangles in everything (perhaps tape the whole length rather than just intervals). I also got a Mashmaster mash mate (same probe) and I'm thinking about using the two probes to brew (one in HLT and one in mash tun, with an immersion element) with the one mash mate, then putting one probe in the fridge with the fridge controller after brewing. If I do this I'll have to rethink my strain relief.

Thanks for the helpful comments Mesa, much appreciated. I finally got the thing wired up. The instruction diagram deviated somewhat from the actual product but in the end wasn't too tricky to get together. I decided to place the connector/socket outside the jiffy box as I need disconnect the probe in order to pass it through a blow-off tube (I ferment in a glass carboy).
