As you can imagine we have paid quite a lot for tooling cost & R&D. When we first launched this product we did say that we were selling at close to our cost price and we would increase the price which is what we have done. It's simply not sustainable for us to have large tooling and R&D costs without having some way to pay for these costs. We would like to continue to be able to come out with many other new products in the future but part of that is making sure we charge a price that we can absorb these speculative product development costs.
It's not normal for someone like ourselves to publish a list of potential competitors but we strongly feel that our product is so competitive we openly feel happy to talk about the competitors products and their price.
Aliexpress:
Prior to us making the Cannular canning machine this was pretty much the cheapest place to get a canning machine. The service and support is obviously limited and your options would be something like this:
This product was not a great design. It was cumbersome, heavy and from the units that we purchased and tested they were simply electrically not compliant. These cost about USD$450 plust shipping. So the landed cost in Australia once you pay for shipping might be something like AUD$900.
Then you have machines like this. The Oktober can seamer is a great unit. Well designed and by all means it's got a good reputation. Had of we purchased and re-sold these we would have had to sell these for AUD$1300 and this is for the cheapest one that have which I think is the SL1 Model.
Then the other popular model that is from America is called the All American and it looks like this below. This model is hand operated which is a bit annoying and the hand operated model if we sold it would cost about AUD$1500 if we sold this in Australia. If you went with the motorised option we would probably have to sell these for over AUD$2000.
So given the price of the competition i would say our price of AUD$499 is actually the bargain of the century. The lucky customers who got one of the first two shipments got a cheaper price but the AUD$499 is still an absolute deal and many other companies in our position would probably charge close to the cost of the competition or slightly less.
No matter what we sell we will always get customers who think the price should be cheaper. With that said we pride ourselves on offering extremely good value on our whole range of goods. If however this is not the case we open the forum to areas where you think we can improve.
