Is Pewter Ok

I have just inherited a nice pewter tankard that was my grandfathers.

it feels nice to hold, keeps the beer nice and cold, is a good size and has sentimental value.

But I have noticed a slight taint to the beer drunk from it.

Does anyone know if Pewter is ok ? will the taste go away after after a few uses
or is there anything i can do to passivate it?

If it's that old, it's likely got lead in it. Send it straight to the pool room!

If it tarnishes easily then it's got lead in it. Being old you could probably guess at it having lead in it rather than the newer safer metals they add to the alloy.
