Hey guys, just wondering if there is a database or something similar that has a list of common grains, recommended usage levels and what they bring to beers?

Just curious as to why certain grains are in certain beers and what contribution they have

+1 on the Craftbrewer site, although they don't stock a few of the grains such as Joe White Ale, Pilsener etc - but those would be quite similar to the Barrett Burston varieties.

The weyerman site is very handy for their (excellent) malts.

Or if you use software like beersmith you have the database of malts, hops, yeasts and all the other ingredients, and can keep track of the vital statistics like gravity, IBU, colour, beer styles, etc as you combine them in your recipes.

so according to that then Crystal 10, Caramalt, and Carapils are all effectively the same thing?
surely not?
