G'day All,
Just a quick question that I hope someone can help with. Is a Alkoholometer the same as a hydrometer?? Our wash has been fermenting for about 3 weeks and it is now slowing down. I need to check it, but my Hydromoeter doesn't read 990.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Drew

No.
An Alcometer is used to measure the % of alcohol in a liquid, while a Hydrometer is used to measure the specific gravity of a beer wash. I'm only a newbie, but I'm fairly certain thats the case.
I use both, 1 for beer, and 1 for spirits. From my experience, the Alcometer is fairly useless for measuring beers and wines that have a low % of alcohol, but is useful for measuring spirits, particularly high % distilled spirit that can be around 95%.

Please read the forum guidelines. No distilling posts. If the government decides to change the laws to match New Zealand, we will change the forum to reflect that.
