Lets face it, big brand international beers good and bad are increasingly brewed under license in Australia.

Unfortunately so far Heineken, Stella and Carlsberg have all fallen victim to a noticeable reduction in quality, taste and distinctiveness after being brewed by the likes of CUB in Australia.

I'm optimistic that Coopers could actually do something to improve the middle of the road King of Beers.

Even more importantly, I'm pleased that InBev are considering awarding such a lucrative contract to the family run Coopers, instead of the incumbent partner CUB.Surely, this can only be a good thing.

(My vote is for the 2008 Coopers Vintage Ale)

Couple of worries:

1) How long will they remain family owned ? This is a significant move and the owners may be becoming less passionate about Coopers beer and reputation, hence letting this happen (if it happens).

2) They will probably employ new brewing practices to pump out bud, and think, gee this is very cost effective - lets do it for the Coopers products as well. Lets face it, this happens to a lot of smaller breweries that get tied up with big multinationals.

+1. Life is simple, if you don't like the beer, don't drink it. I love the Bud motto - "King of Beers" Proves undisputably my anti monarchy / pro republican / left of centre socialist leanings are well founded.

Nahh - more simple than that - your a Dragoons supporter and therefore either unpredictable, unreliable or an underperformer .... (runs ducking for cover out of FG's swing zone...)

I always wondered why they started to make a lager. Perhaps this is why? To show that they can?

Lets just hope Bud doesn't replace CPA :(

cheers

Now look, WTF IS THIS?
You always had the rep of the tiger of the forum, a man of steel, a man not to be messed with , a man who would ride into the sunset leaving behind a trail of disagreeing but thoroughly chastined posters in his wake like 9 pins in a bowling alley.....
So what`s with these arty fartsy I more or less agree posts?
Two possibilities- you`re getting old or or well, I`m mystified.

stagga.

That's going straight to the pool room

Regardless of the the pro's and con's, that would mean they Coopers would need a kick arse filter and that is what I reckon they need. I hate the taste of thier yeast, and that is all i taste in thier beer!

Hmmm,

Yeast flavoured CPA. Couldn't expect one brought up on Tooheys and XXXX to understand though

cheers

Ahh, that would be Tooths not Tooheys for my generation, but Dirty Annie and Reschs was the poison of my household, Tooths was for those inner city types!

I just hope there's not a mix up at the bottling plant and I wind up cracking open a bottle of Coopers Vintage, carefully stowed away in the cellar for 5 years, to discover its a Bud! :icon_vomit:

Are Australians really going to drink large amount of BUD....???

Really, it is basically a novilty beer, like Becks,Stella, Heinicken etc...

Cant see it nocking off VB as the biggest selling beer. :D

I thought Becks and Stella sold quite a lot- with everything's that been written about' premium' beer sales going up...

Cool!
I love Bud!

You know, I still think Bud is an odd match for Coopers.

I really wish they'd got a license to make something better, and more in keeping with their style - maybe some English ales...

Imagine - Coopers made under license Fullers, Worthingtons or even Bass? Branching out in terms of ale styles would be a natural progression for Coopers, and would mean we could enjoy English beers that are fresh and cost less than $7 per bottle.
:)

That's a really good point. It's (obviously) a really commercial decision to get something that can be mass produced and has a multi million dollar marketing/branding presence behind it already but it is interesting they didn't try and go with something like the ales as you say.

Like a cereal decoction, krauesening (hence the acetaldehyde), and clarification with beechwood chips?
