does anyone know where to buy gas cylinders from in the brisbane area (qld)

So these fire extinguishers with dodgey valves removed and your new fittings installed is not good?

Scare tactics work on some people! Good fire extinguishers are sold to scrap metal yards because the company that is contracted to inspect them wants to make money from selling new ones.

You guys are implying that CO2 escaping from a leaky FE valve is so dangerous and such a risk to the general public like LPG or Cyanide! So if CO2 leaks into the atmosphere, what happens next? Do we get incinerated, vaporised, heart failure or what?

What does this forum stand for, profit or public information?

Can you seriously not see why people are concerned about what you've posted!?!

Familiar with the concept of asphyxiation?
Just one of many fun and exiting concequences of a leaky/faulty CO2 tank/valve.

Encouraging people to steal extinguishers is also not kosher. - Effectively encouraging someone to commit a crime, and potentially place others in danger by removing safety equipment.

FFS!

Woah, who moderated!!????!!

Deleted posts recommending the stealing of cylinders or illegal filling of cylinders with faulty pressure containing valves. Poster of these suggestions, check your personal liability insurance.

Onya PoMo. Can't have farkwits posting stupid **** like that.

Go the Mods!

What is Public Liability Insurance?

EDIT: I just did a Google search!

Posters on a Public Forum have no need for Public Liability Insurance unless they are selling stuff related to their business.

This is spossed to be a Public Forum, not a Classifieds Forum manipulated by people in business! If I am wrong, then why haven't I been advised of such? Also, if I am wrong, I will stop offering advice that helps people to put their money to better use in creating a brew for them and not to profit some retailers dominating a "Public Forum".

I know retailers are in need of income, but when it comes to blatant profiteering by using scare tactics, I don't feel there is a place for it on Public Forums!

Am I wrong? Obviously YES! This is a Classifieds Forum with the added feature of making a PayPal donations! Donations are audited for taxation purposes. So can we have the details of what money is coming in and going out? An annual finance report would be nice.

Isn't that just for public companies? And do you need to be a shareholder?

Caebonator - c'mon no ones making anyone buy anything from anyone. plenty of ppl use fire extinguishers but recommending that ppl go and knock them off and then saying a comment like co2 is harmless when released into the air is a bit silly - we all know what happens it disapates into the air....until that one brewer who has taken your advice is using it in a tiny enclosed shed and that one brewer does have a leaky extingusher....i'd rather not have to reply to the first "brewers rip" thread on here.

giving advice is good as long as you explain both sides, the good and the bad.

Sorry to head more off topic, but this is not a public forum nor has it ever been stated as such. It's not paid for with your tax dollars, it's run by volunteers and owned by a sole proprietor. It's paid for by sponsors and donors like you and me.

Have you seen what has happened to other forums in Australia in the past when they've faced legal action? They've either disappeared or had to pay thousands of dollars to prove the fact that it was someone else who posted the information and they are not liable. I don't want to see that happen here.

Indeed. Dane has posted the rules at the top of every forum. Carbonator's posts about stealing stuff comes under the one line in red: clicky.

Please let's keep this thread on topic, keep it legal, keep it safe and we'll all have a good time.

btw, the quip about insurance was just that, a quip, a joke.

It has gone way off topic and I didn't explain both sides.

Forget the crap about insurance and who pays for what on a forum.

Buying a CO2 cylinder from many home brew shops that have them is the easiest option, but it's like a printer, the consumables are expensive, unless you know someone that fills fire extinguishers. Not all home brew shops can refill them. If you are thinking of BOC, the cylinder rental is off the planet, and you would need to be running a pub to justify the cost.

Do a bit of forum searching to find some info on fire extinguisher conversions if you are able to "stuff around" with a project.

Nobody here disagrees with you on that note. The mods just don't like suggestions of anything that's illegal.

Back on topic, I currently use an air liquide cylinder, and am going to change to a my keg on legs (http://www.mykegonlegs.com.au/) cylinder so that I won't have to pay rent any more. It's national, so it's quite convenient :)

This is what you needed to post yesterday instead of advocating the theft of fire safety equipment from workplaces.

Yes, there are options involving modified extinguishers. There is also MyKegsOnLegs (if you have a dealer nearby).

My own choice was to buy a mykegsonlegs as it was as cheap as 18 months of BOC rental with roughly the same refill/swapover costs as BOC. Not sure where you can get them in Qld.

I got a modified CO2 fire extinquisher from a cylinder testing place, its a 3.5kg bottle and its red B)

I reckon its awesome, looks really retro in my kegerator, and the guys at the testing place said theyd give me free refills in exchange for some samples, it doesnt get much better than that! :)

As far as I'm aware most HB shops charge approx $50 swap & go on a bought 6.8kg bottle (kegsonlegs). From my experience the Fire extinguisher mobs generally want the same amount to fill a much smaller bottle. Also the swap & go is valid even after your bottle passes its "in test" date with no extra charge... Pretty good value I reckon :)

cheers Ross

That was the only drawback on the smaller cylinder, they were saying its $10 a fill generally regardless of the size, not that ill be paying cash to get my cylinder refilled B)

So that $50 swap and go thing, do you pay $50 each time? Or just initially then a refill fee to swap?
