Doc, I almost certainly am in for an aspirator. To clarify, the aspirator will take only 5psi (35 kPa) on the inlet, so if I have a balanced system running at 100 kPa, I need a second reg to drop the pressure between my 100 kPa supply and the aspirator, or fart around valving the normal kegs off and winding down the original reg when using the engine?

thanks for the feed back delboy.a great read.
doc put me down for an aspirator please.my order may increase .

cheers

I'm going to use my party keg sodastream set up to run it - just another option.

fwiw docs prices are great as ive just seen the same type of aspirator/breather on a usa site for $158 dollars.

From my research the Aspirator will only need around 5 psi to place CO2 into the keg to replace beer as it is drawn through the beer engine. A higher pressure would likely cause the aspirator to pass the CO2 constantly through to the keg and the beer to then flow straight through the beer engine. They don't work like the regular taps where beer only flows when the tap is opened.

I've seen them that price on US sites too and that is US$150.
AU$42 is an awesome price.
The other quote I go this morning was UK30 each which is in the AU$80 region each.

Beers,
Doc

Thanks for the efforts Doc, I am in for an aspirator. I guess by the time I set up a separate fridge at a warmer temp, a separate gas source is a mere drop in the expanding pool of brewing related expenditure. Especially since I need to build a completely new bar, cant see a beer engine looking right in the current Balinese faux native version.

Just a theoretical question for a newbie - Do you need a pressure keg (eg cornie) or wooden cask for real ale? I know that wooden casks are traditional but do you reckon a plastic jerry can/cube could be adapted? Replacing the CO2 at 5psi isn't much. Condition and serve from the one container is the thought.

Just thinking out loud....

Doc I think you are now upto 8 aspirators now? I will have one to make it 9  I think, anyway can't be far away.

Wooden casks aren't used that often if at all these days.
I plan on using a corny keg or a spray bottle (5litres) like a number of guys use for their party setups.

Ideally a real cask would be great as in this piccy.

i have just tried to go to a site that showed the difference between the two 1 cask breather and 2 cask aspirator.
it seems that the spigot style air breather that was used to keep CAMRA happy has fallen buy the wayside and is no longer around .well that lived a short life of 3 or 4 so years

as it seems the aspirator that we now all know of as a cask breather has taken on both names so you are now correct in calling it a breather or an aspirator or cask breather/aspirator

so sorry if i confused the issue but there was once two different pieces of hardware.

it seems CAMRA are very anal about these things but who cares what camra thinks they are very over the top anyhow.

Excellent.
Getting very close now.
Looks like the order will be for the Aspirators' only.

Beers,
Doc

Edit: Not everyone has voted in the Poll. So are we really up to 9?

one of your aspirators would go very well with on of these beer barrels shame we can't get them here in Aus.

Cheers
Andrew
