I've got a mate who wants to start out brewing and mentioned that his first brew he would like to make a porter.
Anyway after looking st HB kit reviews it seems there isn't many porter cans around or atleast at that is good.
So I was thinking maybe I could get him to use an dark ale kit such as the coopers or morgans and step it up a bit with some steeped roasted barley or chocolate malt? (can these be steeped?)
What would your suggestions be?
being his first kit I don't want to get into extract or mashing at all but steeping is fine.
Maybe something like this:
-Coopers Dark Ale
-1kg of Dark Dried Malt
-50 grams of roast barley steeped (I have a available: roasted barley, chocolate malt, black malt or dark crystal)
-1098 british ale yeast (already in my fridge)
Never done a porter before so not much experience here.
Cheers
