Saw this guy in Aldi today.. dare I suggest it be suitable as a fermenter? 100L for $60, not a bad scoop.

There was a post on these a few weeks ago, apparently ok.

Hey if anyone in Brisbane stumbles across one of those 100 litre water tanks still in ALDI and feels like picking one up for me I'd greatly appreciate it... I'm out of the country for a couple of weeks so can't get one myself. Actually thought they'd all be gone by now.

I doubt this would use food grade plastic. On the other hand, it's likely to be UV stable.

I'd expect they would be bought by many people for drinking water as 100L is SFA for gardening purposes, so they'd have to be food grade to avoid recriminations. I saw a couple at Lismore and also Casino, if they are still there I'll see if I can do a sniff test in case of "chemically" twang that seems impossible to remove from some containers (those collapsible water bags absolutely stank and I had to chuck them).

Best of luck in Bris.

Does anyone know if the vacuum sealers vac down smooth bags or do they need the cross hatched ones?

Supplied with cross hatched ones.

Would be perfect for indefinitely recycling chiller water if you had two of them.

Does it have a recycle marking on it?

If it is 2 or 4 you are very likely to be good to go, they're both types of polythene (the simplest possible thermoplastic) and there's really no need to add anything to the PE. The nanny state won't allow the use recycled polymer in food articles but there's not a lot that would go wrong with recycled PE.

If it's 5 (PP) it's probably still OK but it's more likely to have had a stabiliser added.

I own a vacuum sealer atm and have bought there bags a few times before as mine doesn't seal the smooth bags that are readily available to me. Just seeing if anyone has used one to seal smooth thicker sandwich bags with them and had success.

If it helps you I've sealed chip packets and other random stuff with my Aldi one. I'm sure you could just hit "seal" a couple of times to do it properly if the first one didn't work?

Using 200 litres of water at an ambient of 20 degrees, that would be fairly typical most of the year, with 25L of boiling wort, you wouldn't get much below a final temperature of 30 degrees even with perfect equilibrium attained using a plate or coil chiller.
Using a single tank of 100L you'd realistically struggle to get below 40 degrees.
I'll stick to cubes.

I think the major attraction would be doing massive brews but then you'd need lifting gear / special refrigeration cabinet whatever.

The difference between the Aldi, bunnings and similar fishpond offerings is that the Aldi kit includes a diverter, stand and link tube. I got the kit identical to bunnings from fishpond a few years ago for $50 delivered and use it to catch rainwater for watering hops and veggie garden.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have a local bloke that sells recycled food grade drums/buckets/etc for fairly cheap
Would be a much cheaper option than these Aldi units
Just discovered he does 20, 25 and 30L cubes for $8 so I'll be stocking up

30L cubes would be pretty handy, especially at $8. Can you use these as a FV? any drawbacks? I could probably fit 4 of those in the brew fridge.

I'm not sure if the 30L ones have bung holes for taps, going to ask him today to find out

Yeah I'm just after one as it seems like a fairly convenient storage for RO water, given it takes forever to run a brew's-worth through my little filter.
