120l Kettle - It Just Wont Boil

This was just another test run...no wort...just water.

Im pretty happy with the boil with the lid 3/4 on...good rolling boil...even though it was just water.

Is there any requirements involving the vent size?

Not really, just need to let some of the gas escape. Sounds like it might work with a lid, but you need to try it with beer, see if you get a good rolling boi, and see what volume you lose to evaporation to be sure.

Nope. Just as long as the mercens can escape at intial kettle-up. i can (but dont) run a condenser, approx 15cm over that 1.5m wide space hole to the outlet.

Let some free and you will be happy. Most important is that you do not build things up or allow back pressure to create boil over. Same sized hole but on a much smaller (600l) kettle at Potters. If you don't watch that thing it boils over like a mother f*^%$.....
