Which Grains And...

hi all i am off to the big smoke (sydney) in a week or so around the cronulla / shire area can some people recommend some good home brew stores in that area, i am after 2 or 3 one kilo bags of multi purpose grains.
So i don't know much about grains but have done a few partials with crystal and chocolate grain and want to buy some grains tha t will allow me to do a varietey of partials.
And i have done a plain old coopers aussie lager with a kilo of dex and the stock standard kit yeast to 21 litres but forgot to take a inititial gravity can any1 tell me what it is likley to have started at, it has brewed warm @ 18 (a little warm as i understand).

OG 1.043 for 21L

In terms of spec grains, depends on what beer you plan to brew...

I would suggest 1kg each of light and dark crystal, 0.5kg choc malt, roast barley if into stouts, carawheat/munich perhaps.

i would say your brew probably started at around 1043

Pilsner, ale and crystal. If you like stouts replace the pilner with chocolate.

i really enjoy hoppy pale ales, lagers. as well as porters stouts ,red ales and eurpean lagers.

There is 'The brew shop/ ESB' at peakhurst, 60A Henry Lawson Drive Peakhurst. Or 'Kirrawee Home brew' at flora st Kirrawee. These are the only 2 HB shops in the area that have a decent range of grain. 'The brew shops' prices are a bit nicer and have a bigger range but it's futher away from Cronulla/ Kirrawee.

My advice is to ring ahead if you go to Peakhurst as they have get some of the grain from their warehouse (which is close by) but means you will have to wait.

yes so far only crystal and choc

Ok.

You say you've done partials so you probably know this but if you get base malts like some of the ones I suggested (pilsner, ale or other lighter malts) you'll need to mash whereas you can just steep the choc and crystal.

I mash regardless but steeping won't get much out of a pilsner malt.
