For me it definitely has been spooning at the QLD Case Swaps!

But seriously, the friendship, generosity, laughs, food and of course the beer are first class.

It's all of you on the forum, even the naughty ones that make it what it is - magnetic.

Cheers,

Sean

Just remembered another great moment in history.

back on the brew day in tamworth with ross pumpy and stu...... god would that be 4 or 5 years ago now?

A few of us had begun to build grain mills and i had just hooked mine up to a motor.

I ran the grain through for the brew we were making that day. This thing eats 5 kg in 40 seconds

We all watched the grain run through in amazement and when it was done there was a short silence broken by Ross saying

"well......... that takes the fun out of it doesnt it :)"

Here a couple of pics from long ago of a fun night........ or was it morning by then?

And a couple of my fav mods to the pics that i posted ages ago somewhere

cheers

Has it got a bit of greyhound in it?

lots of good mermories on the path of homebrew - but just did an IPA and hit 85% eff - generally do about 70% - I'm stoked

Also, might be purely coincedential, but I actually messed with the water chemistry

Milestones to the best beer in the world

Finding some great Micros during an almost 2 year trip around Australia, first was Ferel Brewing in the Swan Valley in WA, Followed by some others such as Mildura and Red Hill then Grumpys.

In 2005 finding that Bindi on the Grumpys Forum lived 2K from my place.

Bindi introducing me to partials then AG.

And then of course

I'm surprised no-one has said this yet?

I found this site!

+1 Thanks to its founders and all on here

All the great brewers and brewers that I've had access too since being in the fraternity

Leon at the OLD ESB at Randwick that showed me how simple it was to do AG.

My first medal (AG) at the Bathurst Comp early this millenium.

Getting Exhibitor of Show at Bathurst in '06

Discovering Imperial IPA's in the US in '05 and brewing beers on par (if not better) since.

Doc

Brewing my first AG (and the best beer I've brewed so far), all thanks to encouragement, and loans of equipment thru guys met thru this site.

The first brew where I added a few extra hops and grains, really set me away from kits.

My original 'sour orange' belgian flanders redish ale. Still my best beer so far.

My first AG brew weekend and tasting the beers that came out of it.

My first AG ending up finishing second at AABC for British and Irish ale...

My first beer on tap...

All the case swaps and club meetings....

Being very new to this AG business i,m at the point most of you have been at a long time ago and only just realising how good beer could be, my defining moment was getting an invite from Screwtop to come have a look at his brewery, same deal he didn't now me and i didn't now him, walked into his shed and tried a Nth German Weizen " Holy crap, you can actually make beer this good", then we worked our way through the beers he had on tap at that moment. Then i tried a beer i hadn't had before, it was a APA that he had Quote "stuffed up" Unquote and OMG it was one of the tastiest beers i'd ever expierienced, my K+K beers haven't tasted the same since, and i can honestly say (without wanting to give out reacharounds  ) thanks to this forum i've met some great piss funny blokes who'll do anything to help you out and supply you with a wealth of knowledge. Cheers

First LCPA
First IPA.
kook's IIPA that he shared at ausdb's two-bag-brewday.
Sinka's IIPA that he shared at my first WCB meet.
Asher's(?) Samuel Adams Triple Bock that he shared at same meet.
First AG brew and realising how easy it is to do.
Trip to Munich.
Grumpy's and AHB.
Sandgroper Xmas cases.

for me it would have been ausdb's brewday, it's all been downhill since then.

What has been the highlights?
There has been so many.....

Brew day with Pumpy,
AHB pub crawl,
Kegging,
Meeting new and like minded folks,
Achiving very drinkable brews,
but most of all, The learning experience and when I have been able to give the right advice and someone has come up trumph! :)

as others have said, there are so many highlights, and most of them since I've been on this forum.

Not in any order:

Meeting Stephen (Brown) who lives about 2 streets away and discovering his (infectious) passion for AG.
My first AHB pub crawl and meeting a whole heap of brewers, who were previously just names and nicknames (and now are my good friends).
Doing the BJCP course and receiving accreditation as a beer judge.
Attending my first comp and meeting some of the names and faces.
Tasting beer brewed by some of the big names, notably Barry and his Robust Porter. Thanks, Barry.
My first excursion to Epoque Belgian Beer Cafe in Cammeray (and my second, third and subsequent visits).
My first visit to the Port Dock Brewery in Adelaide.
Visits to Potters Brewery and Murrays Brewery, and then having friends become the brewer at said venues. :D
My first competition entry (egged on by a mate who was entering a coffee stout). We both got a second place, which was pretty good for a local comp (1999 Newcastle Show), stacked with entries from the ESB brewers club.
Discovering great weizens, starting with the original Redback - which was a fantastic example and my "goal beer" for a number of years.
And...it's great to receive props in the first post of a "brew career highlights" thread. Further mention should be made that the Berliner Weisse in question was actually a "bonus" beer, due to a failed attempt to produce a drinkable version in the last case swap. So, I brewed two beers for that particular case swap. There was no intention to enter it in a competition, but I thought I'd give it a go, as I was quite happy with the balance of flavours.
IF it makes you guys feel any better about it, I only had a couple of stubbies myself, and gave the rest away like a good beer "ambassador/ evangelist" would, coz I can ALWAYS brew it again!
It's much easier to make a beer again than it is to make a friend, by sharing a great beer. Right?

All the highlights to come...ANHC, world travel and more.
huge Cheers :p

My first brew, 25 years ago. A partial Munich Dunkel. That beer tastes better each time I recall it... :p

Six medals at the Perth Royal Beer show this year.

WJ

In no particular order
$1 a middy nights at Paddy's with Choc ice cream sandwiches
AHB Pub Crawls, whoever thought of that was a genious
Brew day with TD & Dowdy at Talavera
Duff & Kell's hospitality

Cheers
Gerard

It has to be all the people I have met. I sometimes think that the greatest lost to me if I never did home brewing is all the people that I would miss knowing. All the brewers going to the Mel's ESB Peakhurst meetings over the last 12 years. All the Bathusrt brewers over the last 7 years. All the IBU's, HAG's, MALES and ISB's. All the brewers at the comps including the interstate judges who travel great distances for the love of home brewing. The AHBers on the great pub crawls.
Everyone I have met, from all walks of life, have been down to earth with great senses of humour, not afraid to get cold and wet or hot and scotched in their "hands on" pursuit of home brewing.
A bit OT but I still remember the reactions at the ESB meeting when I shared Les's Berliner Weisse. They ranged from great appreciation, confronting to OMG. That is what is so great, sharing the adventure.
Can't wait to meet everyone at the State, Bathurst and the ANHC.

Besides the obvious (AHB) and creating a life long addiction by starting AG, it's the amount if interest people have over conversation with the process involved and the quality of beer that's produced as an end result of HB'ing. Its great that allot of people from my gen (y) are allot more accepting and open to the quality of product that's achievable in the home environment.

Another high note was when i was been approached to write a 3 piece feature article for RMIT student magazine Catalyst on 'the art of home brewing'. Now this was allot of fun and they have suprisingly had allot of great feedback regarding the articles. (i wasn't spreading a virus of bad information after all!). I have a great sense of pride that i have helped others out in their infancy of HB'ing as well as others now catching the bug or starting back up again by giving out some simple yet useful advice. Mind you, this information would not have been anywhere near what it is without the help of everyone here!

Cheers AHB! :icon_cheers:

A few come to mind for me, starting with finding this site, then seeing Gerard_M do a mash. He advertised on here that he was doing one at his old man's place, and I just turned up without even telling him I'd be there. He put on a bbq and everything. Even taught me how to hit my Mash Temp every time. ;) Then meeting all the brewers in the Hills district, and when I reaslised that Duff lived a ten minute walk away. (Ten minutes there...45 minutes home!!!)

Learning how to make great beer has been fantastic, but meeting the great blokes through this site to share our beers with has topped it. (/end corny mode)
