Growing up in the UK (my parents were still alive) I never ever felt cold, and was bemused that foreigners described the British climate as 'cold'. Sure it would be a bit chilly running from the house to the off licence in a snowstorm wearing a shirt only, but not that shivering bone chilling cold. I would go hill walking (bush walking) in the Welsh hills in winter and camp on snow for a week and be snug as a bug.

I didn't experience real abysmal soul-shattering cold till I visited Canberra.
 
Even the cold is better in England.
 
The word out is that he set out in the Blue Mountains looking for a pub that sold decent beer but after 12 days had to give up.

Or having got to the pub, found leaves and grass more appealing than the parma and pot deal
