Unless Lael has sold more today I believe he has 2 spots left if there is anyone who is interested in a kit

Hey guys, I appreciate the thought, but please don't edit the paid list. I'll update it when funds clear into the account. It makes it simpler if there is one master list and so that when it says paid we all know the money has been received. Thanks!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has paid so far! Almost there!

If you are not on the list and would like a kit, PM me - I have four spaces available. First to PM me, get a go ahead and pay - gets the spots.
If you are on the list - please pay as soon as you can so we can get this order under way.
If you need to pull out of the buy, please PM me and let me know so I can open up the spot for others. (there is currently one spot open)

I've run the test controller with parts through a test run - it is beautiful to use! So nice to have two elements controlled by the one control box so easily!

AS per the above post - the PCBS, boxes and heatsinks have been delayed through Chinese New Year. I understand from the suppliers these will ship in late March.

Parts Received so far: buttons, stainless screws, nuts, nylon standoffs, buzzers, thermal paste, SSRs, Arduino Megas, Custom cables, Custom LEDs, received most of the power sockets also.

The list below indicates what I have received. Please don't edit this list as it contains payment information. If you have paid and it is not indicated on the list, wait a few days. I will try to update it regularly. Thanks Everyone!

Details about this kit if you want to know more:
Hi Everyone,

The costing came out to $245AUD per kit + $15 postage (AusPost express) once all the parts and exchange rates are accounted for.
If you haven't seen this post: http://aussiehomebre...46#entry1251289 It has more details on pricing etc.

If you are outside Aus, the kit is almost exactly 1.5kg, which means that the calculation needs to be for 1.5-2kg to allow for packaging (appx 150/200gr I think). If you are international, the price is $245+Intl postage+$5 for packaging materials. Go to: http://auspost.com.a...calculator.html and select Overseas (parcels) and check out weights. Generally better value can be had by combining weight - eg: 2 kits =3-3.5kg and usually makes shipping cost per kit half.

I've put together a quick (actually, it is 30mins...) video showing what is included and how it all goes together so if you are trying to figure out what is included and how difficult / easy it is, give it a watch. It is so beautifully simple to put together.
Take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdKQ31dLl28

If you are ready to pay - the information you need is here:

Based on the first survey I did, I'm looking at getting heating elements and stainless plates to make the build process easier. So there is a quick survey about that. The only question you have to complete is the one saying - Yes I will be responsible for the kit I build, not Lael (basically - you build it, you are responsible for it). Once you submit that, you'll get account details to put the money into, and I can start ordering parts! (I'll actually wait a little until we get enough people paid for this to go ahead). I'll add payment status to the above list once it starts coming in.

A BIG Thank You! to Austin and the Admin crew for giving me supporter status to allow me to handle all the messages coming through. Super appreciated!

So this controller will have the capabilities of running 2 elements.

My question is what type of elements power / watts and related amps will be required at the source? e.e. I'm guessing 2 x 2400 / 2200 watts will be the most common choice + a pump out of the controller. What do I need at the wall to handle this? I'd say I'm just running the standard 10 amps in my garage at the moment.

Thanks

P.S. Any further word on the bulk investigation for custom pots and elements as mentioned in the questionnaire?

2 x 2400w is what both Lael( Lael was using An over the side element to help with the boil yeah Lael has prolly change his system since I was last there) and I both currently run using two separate 10 amp circuits. Now I've just move and I'm really not keen on the mains power set up here. To run mine I have one cable to the laundry and one over the balcony into the lounge room up stairs. One circuit has an element the other has an element the controller and the pump(11 amps tops). I've used heavy duty 1.5mm cables.

Hi Sluggerdog

The advantage of the new controller is we thought of that. So the plugs and sockets supplied will handle 20amps as will the solid state relays inside. But unless you have a special circuit installed it is designed to run the primary element and pump off the first power socket in the back so for most people can run a single element system off a standard power point and you should not have any problems as long as you do not run dryers, kettle, toaster, heater on the same circuit at the same time.
For those that want to rival carlton unit ed for batch size they can have a second power input plug and that drives the second element circuit totally separate from the first primary circuit.
In Australia the wiring rules state houses must have a minimum of 2 power circuits so if you put the power in plugs in different circuits you can have 2 x 2400watt elements on standard 10amp sockets. If you wanted to use 15amp circuits and everything was put together to handle it you could run 2 x 3600watt elements.

I have had sparky here last 2 days rewiring switchboard as we had no earth stake and no earth bonding. Power circuits are now good but need to earth all the lights now.
But I have a couple of 20a sockets and a 32amp socket. Actually for the big welder but if I need to boil a big batch I will be ready!

James

I know Lael is propping up the Chinese economy with all the samples etc and he is sourcing some pots as part of that. Chinese new year closed most of them down so I would say early April we will get an update.

Thanks for the reply, that's fantastic news that we can run the requirements of a standard power port, I'm sure it's already been mentioned in this thread, I just couldn't find it within the 58 pages. We really need a search within thread option for the forum (side note)

Anyway also great news on the pots and parts he is trying to source, I've been seriously eyeing off a 70 litre pot with a couple of 5 star elements but I'll hold off to see what he comes up with (this is easier said then done, very keen to start double batch brewing).

Hey guys!

I think I've got suppliers for perf plates and pots. Elements are a little trickier. I'm still working on them.

I'll post pics when I get something I like.

Can anyone tell me how far into the pot the thermowell that is included in the kit protudes?

Wow this project has evolved so much further than when I first saw it, I guess I will hold out to see how far the "kit" progresses, and then just buy once more parts are available. Thanks matho,Lael and everyone else who has contributed to make it easy for us to get a Braumiser!

Hi Ferg
Measured the temp probe I have that was the one recommended for this and it is about 47mm

I know Lael has ordered with a different connector but I think is the same

Ahh cool, thanks for that James. I'll be making my own malt tube so was considering putting the thermowell somewhere in the centre but not if it's 50mm obviously. Seems people don't have any issues with it being so close to the element anyway.

Personally, I'd prefer the temp feedback taken from inside the Malt Pipe (i'm using an original Brau Malt Pipe and the clearance is 30mm to the bottom screen)
It's better to get a reading of the wort temp just before it flows through the grain as essentially this is the strike water temp.
If the temp reading is taken too close to the element I would expect the temp be higher than the wort on the underside of the malt pipe.

quick update:

During Chinese New Year I started playing with the Spark Cores I bought. Turns out there was an error on the new Brauduino board that would not have impacted on the Arduino, but wouldn't have worked with the Spark. I was going to send the board to manufacturing on Friday, so hopefully will send it early this coming week after some changes are made to the PCB design. There is another hiccup that is somewhat out of my control - it turns out the board that converts the Spark pin-out to an Arduino layout (called a shield-shield) doesn't transfer the signals properly. I've gotten in touch with the hardware designer at Spark to see if the new one (the Photon shield) will work properly, there are whispers that it will. My apologies for the delay, there was some trouble with finalising the testing and figuring out what was going on.

Temp probes - the manufacturer decided to up the price by a lot after the design for the probes was finalised. I started talking to a new supplier just before Chinese New Year and I should have samples within two weeks. If they are good I'll go with them, if not, I'll have to deal with the price gouging for now. The new probes (if they are good) will have a shorter height, around 25mm inside the pot, which is around half the height - which should allow a little more flexibility for those wanting to place the probe inside the malt pipe. (aside - mine is next to the pump intake and when you place a thermometer at the top of the malt pipe the temps are consistent for both temp probes)

I'm sorry for the delays, and apologise for any frustration. I'm eager to get these in your hands to brew with! Hopefully will be sorted asap.

Is the heater only on when the pump is working? I'm assuming this has to be the case otherwise the temp would overrun when the pump is not on. Maybe I'd better work out how this will work for when I get to putting it together!!
Thanks
Bazzab

Yeah, the heater tens off when the pump turns off. With the grain and fluid there is a fairly high thermal mass. You really don't lose much heat in a 2min pump break.

Lael, don't worry about the time. I would prefer to wait and get a good quality product than have instant gratification with low grade gear.

I'm certainly in no hurry either, actually I have no system planed for it .... yet. But I might just wimp out and get a grainfather to throw it at. You can never have too many controllers of stuff ... and shiny things
