Temp Probe Down Side of Carboy Bung?

Hey, I believe this is my first post. I am getting my fermentation equipment together, will use a plastic fermenter for primary, and a 23L glass carboy for secondary. I'm brewing a few different Belgians, and they call for specific secondary temps. I'll use a thermowell for the plastic fermenter, and was thinking of simply sticking the STC-1000 probe into the carboy and they putting the silicone bung on. Anyone done this, and did it work?
