Just wondering if there is any tax ( apart from GST ) on Brewing kits.

Since the kits dont have alcahol (yet) does that mean it cant be Taxed like buying a finished product.

That's right. It used to be that unhopped extract was GST-free (in the way that basic things like flour and other "unprepared" foods are) but for some reason extract now has GST applied to it too,

But no, there's no excise on HB kits.

Yep, exactly right.

Even though it is designed to be turned into beer it cannot be taxed as such because there is no alcohol content yet.

And same reason as to why you can buy the kits in the supermarket, no alcohol content yet. Which brings me to my question.

Has the alcohol consumption laws been tested by a 16 yr old being found intoxicated on homebrew, something that has no legal age restriction on the purchase age?

Wasn't there talk recently about wanting to slap a tax on HB kits?

If this happened you might see a steady increase in EXTRACT and AG brewers

or sadly a huge drop in brewers all together...
