Just in the process of partial mashing an Oatmeal Stout and was wondering if anyone adds salt to there Stouts and Porters ? During the drought we were using bore water for the house which was very high in Chloride and made a fantastic stout  . However since we have gone back to rain water the stouts have lost some Zing !! Anyone add salt to there stouts ?

Cheers

I've never needed to Redgum as I generally put in a box of Uncle Toby's rolled oats, if you check the label you will find it has 100mg of sodium per 1kg box. :D

I add a teaspoon of salt to most brews, including stouts. I also harden the water with some Calcium carbonate & Calcium sulphate when making stout.

cheers Ross

Thanx Ross and Razz for the advice. One Teaspoon of sea salt coming up.

Much appreciated fellas
