Brewer's Notes

Please note that for this batch I had to split the grain in two because I didn't believe I could do an efficient mash in the mash tun I had.

Please note that the first addition of hops is 90g of Newport, and not centennial, as is written.

I'm guessing there was yeast added to this recipe, but there doesn't appear to be one listed in the RecipeDB. What yeast did you use? Also, as it's over 12 months since the recipe was added, how did it turn out?

sap.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that I used Wyeast English ale.

It was quite successful IMO, some good roasty flavours there.

Guys, just to let you know we have made approx 60lt of this in my garage.

I'm not a huge stout drinker but a mate wanted to brew a "big" stout and after giving me 5 minutes to find a recipe for him as he was already at the LHBS - I picked the highest ABV i could find quickly and it was this one.

The first 22lt batch was being happily consumed by us a week or so out of primary and I have to say it's a damn fine drop. Hops are all over the place as the HBS didn't really have exactly what the recipe called for - I think theres more cascade in there among other things but it turned out great apart from struggling to mash that much in our dodgy mash tun - second OG was a little over 1.100.

EDIT: Used WL Irish Ale Yeast

Ummmm, my guess is that this is for a 60lt batch? There's over 20kg of grain in there!

Am I correct, or were you brewing up road-tar?

Thanks Manticle, I need to start wearing my reading glasses whenever I'm ummm...reading ;)

Sounds nice and easy to scale down to my 18lt size.

Funny - I have the exact opposite problem. I often need to take my beer goggles off when I'm um............ doing lots of things..
