:) Pocket Beers - Dark Ale
These things are always a tricky balancing act between bitterness and sweetness. This one treaded the line pretty well, reasonable bitterness, small head and a deep brown colour. Can't add much more due to eating some bloody hot salami while drinking it, had to eat some wasibi peas to clear my palate.

I also drank the dark ale with something hot but it also seemed pretty close to me. I found it perhaps a little sweet but then I prefer my dark beers more on the roast side generally I guess.
Been a little hectic around this way so I can't give much better feedback than that...

Jayandcath's Raspberry Ale
Great dark pink colour with a good head.
I found the initial rasberry a little syrupy sweet for me but the tartness came through at the end as others have said which made it more enjoyable...
Carbonation was excellent and overall a very good fruit beer, not quite the level of overall tartness I prefer myself but a very nice beer all the same.

Drinking yours tonight Stu.
Cloudy yes, a tad sweet perhaps but not really. Nice hop flavour with a little malt underneath.
Very nice beer on a hot summer Brisbane night.
Would have liked to taste it perhaps in a few weeks with a little more carbonation underneath it but it's a very drinkable beer to kick off my christmas break :)

Well thats good to hear :)

I think the sweetness will disapear as it carbs up. It only has BB Ale malt and 10% wheat, so there is no reason for it to be sweet.

Them czech Saaz hopps sure tast nice

Can anyone point me in the direction to get an up to date list of who brewed what? time to get drinking and reviewing.

cheers

Kram's Dark Lager
Had this on christmas eve day while preparing the roasts.
Great dark colour with hints of red underneath.
Good carbonation.
Roast malt flavour was there in the flavour with a nice light lager body underneath.

I really enjoyed this beer.
Great combination of the light crispness of a lager with a solid malty roastness.

Definitely inspsired me to add a dark lager to the long list of things to brew...

Hurry & catch up Browndog, you're way behind :p .
Drank your Tripple (breasted Whore from Eroticion 6) this morning at about 2 am, can recall it was nice and the missus liked it, next I knew the sun was coming up  . Not a very good review I know but a review non-the-less. I also drank a few trois pistoles at the same time (waste of good beers - could have been drinking TEDs for all I could tell :( )

Yeah yeah, I know, getting into them now though, here's a few

Winkle's Rootin Saison
Never really tried a saison before so was very interested to see what was in store. It poured with a huge white fluffy head and had a spicy malt nose. The carbonation was medium-high. I really enjoyed this beer, the sourness had an added carb bite which I liked. Nice drop Winkle.

Frogman's Fosters with frog spawn

A rocky white head that died to a film, pale golden with a malty nose resulted from the pour. I found this beer to be mainly malty with no detectable hop flavour and low bitterness. A great beer to knock back after a hard days work.

Bonj's APA
Poured with a rocky white head that lasted pretty well. A pale gold colour and great clarity, a slight hop aroma met the nose. Tastewise I found this beer to have a nice balance of malt, hop flavour and bittering and was wishing I had a second bottle. Good session beer there Ben, and BTW, I drank it with a fried ham with hot english mustard sanga.

cheers

Frogmans Fosters with Frog Spawn

Pale gold with high carbonation and a lasting impressive, merange-like big white head. Slightly sweet malty body with some faint hoppy notes lurking at the finish. An easy drinker after a chang beer hangover (I'm up for a few AFDs).

Well, I finished my last beer today, I don't know if I missed out on a few or they are hiding somewhere in the fridge, but here are the last of my reviews for what they are worth.

22 Goughale Wounded Beaver

Poured with a thin while head that rapidly diminished, colour was a cloudy pink with a slight malt nose. The rasberry was evident and in contrast to BC, I found the taste to be quite tart and don,t we all love a good tart. Nice interesting fruit beer, well done.

Pockert beers Dark and smiley

A nice tan head with dark malt grain aroma, my notes simply say awesome taste so big ups to you PBs, one of my favourites in the swap.

23 Dunno who's Dark Something

Poured a dark beer with no head and medium to light carb, no late hops tasted with fairly low bittering and dark grains to the fore in taste, I thought it was quite a good drop though I knew not what it was.

B Connery's Belgian Sour Orange

Poured with a Slight off white head that rapidly diminished, malty belgian notes on the nose and a cloudy orange colour. I found the orange to be subdued to the malt with just the right amount of tartness from the Media Tart himself.

17 Dunno who, dunno what

Poured with a massive glass overflowing head, colour was golden and cloudy. Carbonation was high. I found this beer to have a massive twang of some description, possibly from over carbonation, I don't know what, it reminded me of ascorbic acid. Couldn't drink it I am afraid.

and that's it for me.

BD,
according to a list I have 23 was Chads Pinot Noir Chocolate Porter - leave 2 months to mellow. 17 was Kiwi Gregs -???? but unless hes started producing a very sour lambic, the one I had was infected also. Might crack Bens beer, and the few others left tonight since my gas bottle has run out

1 B Connery's Belgian Sour Orange

hazy burnished copper/orange colour, with quickly vanishing small head and medium carbonation. Slightly spicy, citrus, acidic nose. There seems to good intergration between the maltybody and sourness, not real noticable orange note other than in the aroma. Nice beer mate, has made me think about balance in these types of beers and head off to do a tasting comparison between my recent batches of saisons (had to blame somebody :p )

Sadly I think Stu's beer may have been consumed in a drunken frenzy Boxy day morning (very early) - if its hiding in the fridge I'll post up a review.

A couple more after the fact reviews.

NickBs Nelson Lager
Good pale colour. Excellent carbonation.
Body was a good level with a slightly fruity finish from the hops. Bitterness was well balanced for the beer.
I really liked this beer.
I'd go along with all of this...Nick it was a great beer.

BTW - What was the hopping schedule?

PB :icon_cheers:

Ha, I thought it was a porter!

Well, guess what, found three more swap bottles hiding behind a fermenter of RIS CCing in the fridge, so here we go.

NickB's nelson Lager

A sharp hiss upon twisting the lid had me slightly anxious and with trepidation I commenced pouring and in two seconds the head was overflowing the Millenium 2000 schooner glass. I tried again VERY slowly and got a glass full of Nick's contribution. The aroma to me was of apples, (and I don't know if this has anything to do with the carbonation) The colour was golden with reasonable clarity. There was a carbonic bite but with the beer being fairly clean and the NS not overpowering was OK and I enjoyed the beer a lot. I assumed from the carbonation that the beer was bottle conditioned and was quite surprised to see no sediment in the bottom of the bottle indicating the beer was force carbed. It has me buggered how you could bottle a beer this highly carbed, so I am going to assume something went on with it in the bottle. Still, a good drop Nick.

Kram's Dark Lager

Poured with a small tan head and malty to the nose, this beer was dark with ruby highlights, Clean, crisp and slightly roasty, a bloody nice drop. Kram, with this beer and your success at the QABC08, you truely are The Prince of Darkness MUHAHAHAHAAAhaaaaaaaaa..............

cheers

BD - It's called a carbonation cap :beerbang: Bottled from the keg and carbed with 30 shakes @ 20psi

Was the best beer in the swap... :D

NickB's nelson Lager

I found it at the back of the fridge last nite (maybe some hope that Ducatiboy Stu's beer survived).
Heavily carbonated, took me about 10 minutes to get half a schmiddy full and the bar covered in foam, by the time the head had died back enough I suspect I'd lost most of the aroma, but a light fruitiness remained. Beer itself was pretty tasty, hoppy NS flavour up front with a hint of honeyed malt at the finish, balance seemed about right. First two half glasses were quite bright but the last had some cloudiness (guess it was the first or last from the keg  ). Good beer overall, let down a bit by the carbonation.

Sorry fellas!

That carbonation routine has worked for me in the past... clearly not this time though!

Cheers
