Looks the goods jeddog.

I am brewing a Dr Smurto Golden Ale this weekend for my first AG.

Have a look at the recipe database and see what looks simple.

Maybe go for a darker beer, like a porter which will be more forgiving first up (if you are not confident with your system, setup, temp control, etc.).

Good stuff jeddog.
DrSmurtos GA is very popular as a first brew....it's a very forgiving recipe, easy to brew.

Alternatively, you could go with an amber....heres one I prepared earlier. :p

OG 1042/fg 1010-1012
28 ebc
27ibu (0.65BU:GU)

caraaroma 4.5%
carafa special T1 1.5%
JW Trad ale 94%

Mash 75min, 67C. Mashout and batch sparge 76

Hop to 27IBU (0.65BU:GU) with either

simcoe 60min
cascade 0.75g/L 15
cascade 0.75g/L 5

or
Bramling cross for 60min, and Bramling cross 0.75g/L 15,5

Ferment 18C US05
carb to 2.5vol CO2, serve at 6C

I've had this hopped both ways...I can't decide which I prefer.

what would the total grain bill be for a 12lt brew?

i got some carapils and some chocolate malt grains to use..............sent to me wrongly (got someone else's order by mistake)

Good work Jeddog, can't believe how cheap those eskies are in Target, Damn $45 for similar elsewhere. I would be coiling the Braid a little to get it away from the sides of the Tun to avoid Channeling. A Small mash may just encourage the sparge to run down the side ( I suppose this may not be such a prob if batch sparging).

That recipe of Butters looks a little familiar, I'm sure I saw it for a brief moment the other night. ;) Looks the goods. And that Carafa adds just a little bite of its own.

Cheers
Gavo.

$19.00 for a 33L  , godammit I bought one on special at Wollies for $35 and I thought that was cheap... screwed again... <_<

EDIT: good work too by the way :beerbang:
