I am making my first full size (22 litres) AG tomorrow. I am excited!! (Evil Dr No laugh). Mash in at about 10 am.
Brew fridge is ready to go.
Started some yeast up (Wyeast 2007) last Thursday. It just started waking up a few hours ago and there is now a good 1cm of krausen on it. I was sweating it there for a bit.
I decided to make a Pilsner style beer. I want to make a few lagers over the next few months.
I basically got the recipe from Clone Brews.

Here it is.

only 60 grams of munich? Surely that wont make much of a difference, considering you could use it as a base malt.

Apart from that one puzzle, the rest looks great :)
Good luck with it

Dont know barfridge.
I should have looked into the recipe a bit more.
Like I mentioned this is out of Clone Brews.
Maybe the authors should have cloned themselves first.

OK,
My first attempt at a full volume (22 litres) AG did not go as well as expected.
If you notice the recipe above it has a boil time of 90 minutes. Wel I was stuffing around with beersmith before making it up and accidently changed the time to 60 minutes.
To cut a long story short I eneded up with about 15 litres of higher gravity wort so I had to dilute with water.
Forgot to attach the pickup tube in the kettle :D so I also ended up with all the trub in the fermenter. I let it sit for about 4 hours then transferred again.
All up I got 19 litres at 1044. It is overly bitter but hopefully will settle down in time.
Its been bubbling away at 9C since Monday morning.
Will nail it next time.

cheers
johnno

PS apologies for the late replies.

Well done Johno...

Could have been Worse you know...like;
- the kettle boiling over
- the make shift table upending itself and 11 trs of 1200 wort gone
- same time 13.8kgs of grain in the mash tun on the floor
- a broken brick step
- some one putting your kids on the roof
- could have been pissed and slam dunked hops in there
- could have done your first all grain in front of 15 AHB members - most who u just met...

I think so far that is my list of disasters...dont want to remeber anymore.

Hi johnno,
first up top stuff on getting your system and first brew down.
I think a pils at 42 IBU would taste overly bitter right now anyway, missing the gravity by 6 points wouldn't have helped but it does look like you didn't mess up to badly.

Jayse
ps GMK putting the kids on the roof was their idea. :p after I talked them into it of course

Yes I suppose I should have said something like that too Johnno :p

Great too see mate , all you need to do now is spend another couple of hundred bucks on nice gear and you will think you have it all......till you see something else that's shiny that is.

I bet the beer will be great anyway , different but good
